General Definition of Work
Performs intermediate skilled operational work maintaining the Public Safety Radio system, tornado sirens, and emergency alerting system for Coweta County, including ensuring proper maintenance for the entire system, towers and the 911 consoles, and other duties as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Assistant Director.

Essential Functions
Maintains radio systems including but not limited to issuing equipment to new employees, troubleshooting issues, assigning radio channels, programming, and training all personnel on proper use.
Maintains interoperability capabilities for Coweta Public Safety communications including Critical Connect, Smart Connect
Maintains communication towers including annual maintenance, troubleshooting, and site safety
Maintains tornado sirens system throughout the county
Maintains and activates the Emergency Operations Center as necessary; prepares the center for training or response activation
Maintains the County BDA (Bi-Directional Amplifier) inventory program with the Coweta County Fire Marchal
Develops radio training calendar with all partners using the system
Participates in county public education campaigns and public relation events
Assists in training personnel on public safety communication system at primary site, secondary site, and mobile command vehicle
Assists in maintaining, promoting, and updating 911 and Emergency Management plans (LEOP, EOC, SOP)
Fosters strong partnerships throughout with all jurisdictions throughout Coweta County
Participates in All-hazards planning committee and the Western Area Regional Radio System committee

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization and department policies, practices and procedures; thorough knowledge of related industry, organization and department legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinance and laws; thorough knowledge of radio requirements for managing and maintaining the public safety radio system including radio towers; thorough knowledge of radio programming and maintaining tornado sirens and emergency alerting system; general knowledge to provide training for all new hires and annual in-service training on the radio system, radio equipment, and radio etiquette; general knowledge to manage inventory of radios, batteries, and parts and to perform routine repairs; thorough understanding of radio frequencies and talk groups used in the public safety radio system; thorough ability to instruct staff on differences in encrypted and non-encrypted radio talk groups and different abilities of the system like geofencing areas for special radio talk areas; thorough knowledge of FCC radio licensing requirements, complete knowledge of the P-25 radio system and all portable and mobile radios utilized on the system; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and compute rates, ratios and percentages; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with directors and elected officials at public safety agencies, public safety employees, citizens and vendors; required proficiency in standard accounting and office software including Motorola Programming software.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED and experience in radio management and programming or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 lbs. and the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires sitting and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly of fabrication of parts within arm’s length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires working in wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, non-weather extreme cold or extreme heat; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Special Requirements
Obtain Basic 911 Communications Officer Certification within 6 months; obtain Basic Certificate of Emergency Management, Communication Leader Certificate, and Communication Technician Certificate within 2 years
Complete Motorola Radio Technician training within 1 year and Advanced Certificate of Emergency Management within 4 years
Favorable background history as determined by review of Local, State and Federal records
Valid driver’s license in the State of Georgia with a favorable driving history (MVR)
