JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

POSITION:                 Manager, Terrain Park 

FLSA:                         Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO:           Terrain Park

 

 

SUMMARY: The Terrain Park Manager is responsible for day-to-day over-site of the Terrain Park Program as well as long term planning and other administrative duties. Manages staffing, training, documentation, evaluation, and motivation of all personnel in the department to ensure safe and productive working environment. Creates goals for department, establishes priorities, and ensures alignment with overall objectives of the Resort and Mountain Operation. Works closely with other departmental/divisional mangers to ensure that common goals are achieved.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Ensure effective weekly two way communication with stakeholders including but not limited to: Marketing/Events, Grooming and Ski Patrol
  • Represent department professionally, meet all dress code and uniform requirements, represent the Terrain Park during departmental and management meetings
  • Manage the construction of new features/parks and the ongoing maintenance of existing features/parks
  • Develop departmental and project budgets
  • Identify, prioritize and execute daily, weekly, and seasonal projects
  • Develop and Implement departmental Manual / Standard Operating Procedures
  • Training/coaching/supervising/leading of Terrain Park Attendants and Operators
  • Organize and conduct weekly safety meetings as well as document case specific Equipment and PPE Trainings
  • Lead all Terrain Park Attendants and Groomers efficiently through the daily Terrain Park Operations and nightly design and construction plan
  • Performs a daily assessment of risk, feature inspections, maintenance, and testing of all features
  • Directs leads, attendants, and operators to complete projects and general maintenance in an efficient and carefully planned manner
  • Assist Ski Patrol Director and Grooming team in Design and Construction planning for all parks, pipes, and special events
  • Assist Ski Patrol/Risk Manager on accident investigations
  • Hiring, firing and scheduling of terrain park attendants
  • Act as liaison between Attendants and upper management and other departments
  • Assist in the development of nightly grooming plans for Terrain Parks
  • Responsible for park operations/decision making when manager is unavailable
  • Act as role model regarding employee development and guest service related initiatives
  • Assist in all trainings for Terrain Park Attendants including the implementation of all necessary tools and equipment
  • Ongoing development of standard operating procedures and Best Practices
  • Other duties as assigned

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Strong leadership skills required
  • Experience with budgeting, tracking and controlling costs
  • Ability to self-start and manage own direction
  • Must have a Valid driver’s license
  • Flexible work schedule and ability to work weekends is a must.
  • A firm understanding of terrain park construction layout and design is preferred
  • Must be a skilled and passionate Terrain Park skier/rider
  • 5+ seasons of terrain park work preferred

 

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT(S):

  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted Virginia driver’s license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Physical demands on the incumbent consist of sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; using hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects up to 50 pounds and/or utilizing a hand dolly to move up to 100 pounds.
  • Incumbent must be able to see and hear in the normal range, with or without correction, and communicate verbally and in written form with great facility and must be able to be understood.
  • Incumbent must have the stamina to work long hours and overtime, if assigned, and must be willing to work an irregular schedule, which may include weekends, holidays, evenings, and/or varying shifts.
  • Work is performed in an indoor/outdoor environment. Incumbent shall be exposed to conditions normally encountered in an outdoor environment and including travel from site to site.  
  • Incumbent wears prescribed personal equipment protection including protective footwear.  
  • Incumbent frequently works near moving mechanical parts and pressurized equipment, occasionally works in high, precarious places and can be exposed to electrical hazards.
  • Must be able to walk outside in winter conditions
