The Community Services Department is responsible for providing enriching, fun, and meaningful opportunities for the community to come together. The department operates the Epicenter Sports Complex, RC Family Resource Center, RC Sports Center, Victoria Gardens Cultural Center, Goldy S. Lewis Community Center, and James L. Brulte Senior Center. In addition to the above-listed facilities, more than 30 different parks are open to the community for passive use, park shelters and event rentals, hiking trails, athletic fields, and city-planned special events.

About the Position

The Youth/Family & Contract Classes Coordinator will oversee youth and family services and manage the City’s contract class offerings, including both onsite and offsite classes. This role includes leading and delivering a variety of youth programs—such as the Summer Camp at Central Park, as well as coordinating engaging activities and services that meet the diverse needs of the Rancho Cucamonga community. The coordinator will also supervise a dedicated team of part-time staff, fostering a positive and supportive environment for both customers and employees.

  • Utilizing the Active Net facility booking software to manage classes, camps, workshops, and events.
  • Collaborating with internal programmers and departments for facility operations, logistics, and maintenance coordination.
  • Preparing budget recommendations for the allocation of personnel, equipment, and supplies.
  • Preparing reports regarding program participation, revenues, and expenses.

Position Duties

You will be responsible for:

  • Planning and implementing an 8-week summer camp program that provides engaging activities and memorable experiences for participants. This includes recruiting and onboarding seasonal staff, conducting staff trainings, developing weekly themes and program schedules, purchasing and organizing supplies, completing safety checks, preparing rooms and activity spaces, and coordinating with parents through program information packets, FAQs, and ongoing communication.
  • Overseeing, scheduling, and supervising part-time staff, including recruitment, training, and evaluation.
  • Leading a team of part-time staff, including two (2) part-time specialists, in providing exceptional customer service and high-quality programming.
  • Coordinating a variety of onsite and offsite contract classes to meet the diverse needs and interests of the community.
  • Preparing and submitting seasonal contract class proposals, including reviewing instructor requests and managing room allocations.
  • Conducting contract class evaluations to ensure program quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Overseeing the Extended Trips Program through Collette Tours, providing travel opportunities for the community.
  • Inputting and maintaining program information in the Grapevine and other promotional outlets.
  • Collaborating with the marketing team to promote programs and services, including website updates, social media content, newsletters, and promotional materials.
  • Evaluating current and potential youth, family, and contract class programs to ensure alignment with community needs and trends.
  • Managing contractual agreements including MOUs, instructor and vendor agreements, and community partnerships to ensure compliance, quality service delivery, and positive relationships.
  • Utilizing the Active Net facility booking software to manage classes, camps, workshops, and events.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:
 
Equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by two years of college course work in recreation or a related field.  Three years of responsible seasonal recreation leadership experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
 
Operational characteristics, services and activities of a comprehensive recreation program; pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations; principles of day-to-day supervision and training.  modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment; recent developments, current literature and sources of information in the recreation field; basic first aid techniques; principles of child development and behavior; principles and procedures of record keeping; budget principles and techniques; resources available for planning and implementation of programs and activities; English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; basic mathematical principles; plan, organize, direct, and coordinate the work of assigned personnel; delegate authority and responsibility; organize, direct and implement a comprehensive recreational program; identify and respond to community, issues, concerns, and needs; prepare and maintain accurate and complete records; respond to requests and inquiries from the general public; operate and use modern office equipment including a computer; work cooperatively with other departments, City officials and outside agencies; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including a variety of City and other government officials, community groups, and the general public.

Special Requirements

Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.  
First Aid and CPR certification required within 60 days of employment.

Successful candidate will be required to:

  • Complete a verification form designated by Immigration and Naturalization Service to certify that they are eligible for employment in the United States of America; and
  • Pass a reference and background verification. References will not be contacted until mutual interest has been established.
  • Provide proof of a valid California driver's license and be insurable; and
  • Pass a pre-employment medical exam which includes a Tuberculosis (TB) Exam
