Technician I -$28.02-$36.13

Technician II - $33.02-$42.14

Non-Exempt – Overtime Eligible

 

General Summary: 

Under general supervision, performs a full range of assigned duties with a significant degree of independence and sound judgement. Knowledge of city functions, policies and procedures are required to perform a variety of telephone, in-person and/or online customer service assignments associated with customer account inquiries, billing, marketing, business license and other City licenses, permits, parking citation and other financial transactions.

 

Typical tasks may include:

 

Technician I: 

  • Responds to a high volume of customer inquiries, problems, or complaints in person or by telephone; obtains required information from customers; research applicable information and City records; resolves issues or refers customers to more senior staff or supervisors.
  • Explains policies, regulations, billing and/or fees; creates customer accounts and processes information to initiate/change services or issue/reactivate licenses or permits; calculates bills and fees as required; accepts and posts deposits and payments received in person, by mail or electronically; documents transactions and updates customer information in applicable systems.
  • Responds calmly and professionally in dealing with customers who are irate or who have complex, specialized or sensitive situations; escalates cases to senior staff or supervisors when warranted.
  • Creates, maintains, and monitors computerized files, databases and directories.
  • Conducts record searches and prepares statistical work sheets and other required documentation.
  • Audits documents, verifies accuracy and ensures compliance with applicable statutes and regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Technician II:

  • Performs all essential functions of Technician I with greater independence and judgment.
  • Serves as a subject matter resource for complex, specialized, or escalated customer issues; resolves problems requiring interpretation of policy or coordination across multiple departments.
  • Reviews, audits, and approves financial transactions, records, and reports prepared by Technician I staff to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Assists in training, mentoring, and guiding lower-level staff; may provide input on work assignments and procedures.
  • Prepares advanced reports, correspondence, and statistical analyses for management, including recommendations for process improvements.
  • Designs and updates departmental forms, operational manuals, and customer communications to improve efficiency and service delivery
  • Acts as a liaison with other departments, outside agencies, or vendors to coordinate services, exchange information, and resolve issues.
  • Independently researches and interprets City policies, regulations, and procedures to advise staff and the public.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides knowledge,

skills, and abilities necessary for acceptable job performance would qualify.

 

Technician I

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate degree preferred
  • One (1) year of work-related experience 

 

Technician II

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and two (2) years of work-related experience is desired or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
