Originally built in 1927, the Carolina Theatre, located in the Belk Place civic campus in Uptown Charlotte, has been lovingly restored by Foundation For The Carolinas to its original splendor and will serve as a dynamic civic hub. The classic movie house will feature a mix of performances, films, speakers, and civic and community engagement opportunities.
HOW YOU’LL ADVANCE OUR MISSION | POSITION OVERVIEW
The Lighting Technician works closely with clients to design and implement the lighting needs for various performances, including musical theatre, concerts, comedy shows, and corporate presentations. They supervise crew members during focus sessions and operate the light board during events. This position requires the successful completion of a criminal background check and a drug screening. The Carolina Theatre is committed to creating unique theatrical experiences that uphold the highest professional standards.
YOUR UNIQUE IMPACT | ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works directly with the technical director to establish weekly priorities
- Designs lighting needs based on event requirements
- Modifies house lighting plot to accommodate events
- Maintains the venue’s VectorWorks light plot and paperwork
- Maintains lighting inventory, keeping equipment in safe working order
- Budgets, reserves, and purchases show materials, supplies, and equipment
- Maintains accurate records for all expenditures
- Ensures staff work in a safe and supportive environment
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
WHAT YOU’LL NEED FOR SUCCESS: QUALIFICATIONS
- BA in technical theater or equivalent experience
- 2 years of professional experience as a lighting technician
- Strong verbal and communication skills
- Knowledge of ETC EOS operating system
- Knowledge of DMX and SACN protocols
- Understanding of the safe operation of theatrical rigging systems and techniques
