Job Summary: Work directly with residents providing acceptance, friendliness, and compassion. Activity programs are based on the tenant’s interests, strengths, and needs, in an atmosphere of warmth, success, and encouragement.
Job Relationships:
Reports to: StoneRidge Housing Director
Interrelationships with: Housekeeping Lead, Clinical Nurse Supervisor, Head Chef, culinary servers/housekeepers, caregivers, nurses, Volunteer Coordinator External Contacts: Visitors, Families, Volunteers, Other outside Activity sources for programs
Hours of Work: Full-time, flexibility for evenings and weekends as needed but primarily scheduled during business hours.
Dress Code: Street clothing appropriate in a business environment
Essential Requirements of Work: Minimum qualifications necessary.
A. Education and Training
a. High school diploma or equivalent
b. Basic activity course (a willingness to take this course)
B. Experience: Previous work with seniors is desirable.
C. Personal:
a. Attend all on-going activity training
b. Good physical and mental health
c. Ability to maintain outgoing, cheerful, enthusiastic personality
d. Have efficient time management skills
e. Effective communication skills
f. Ability to work with others in close proximity
g. Self-motivated, work independently
h. Ability to contribute to a friendly, homelike atmosphere
D. Job knowledge:
a. Have knowledge of various activities and be familiar with tenant’s limitations
b. Musical/performance ability desirable
c. Ability to read, write, and follow directions
d. Ability to speak clearly, and to make self-understood to residents of varying abilities
e. Ability to think creatively, plan and problem solve
f. Ability to prepare, present, and evaluate activity
g. Possess good phone etiquette
h. Record keeping ability
Physical Demands of the job:
1. Occasional lifting weights 10-20 pounds
2. Frequent walking, twisting, standing, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling
3. Occasional squatting, kneeling, sitting and reaching above the shoulder
Mental Demands of the Job:
1. Ability to cope with frequent interruptions
2. Ability to vary and adapt activities to tenant ability levels and needs
3. Ability to quickly come up with alternative activity plans
4. Ability to cope with depressed or lonely people
5. Ability to prepare activities with variety, fun, and purpose
6. Ability to deal with residents with dementia

Principal Job Responsibilities:
1. Provide personal contact with residents allowing them to feel successful; that their life has a purpose and to continue to pursue their interests and use their remaining abilities.
Tasks:
a. To provide one-to-one visits; inviting residents to activities in a way that make them feel welcome
b. Creating and maintaining a warm, loving environment
c. Use age and mind appropriate interaction in activities
d. Use good listening skills
e. Explain activities to residents in a way that encourages involvement, respects their rights and gives choices whenever possible
2. Planning, preparing and facilitating activities that meet the resident’s mental, physical, emotional, social and community needs.
Tasks:
a. Offer activities which are a variety and meet different levels of ability
b. Work with the HD in the planning and development of these programs, ever looking for new and improved ways of doing things.
3. Perform miscellaneous functions that emerge daily with kindness, willingness, and spontaneity.
Tasks:
a. Order food and supplies for the department
b. Arrange transportation, or assist on outings
c. Prepare food for activities and clean area when completed
d. Photograph events, sharing interesting events for the Beacon
e. Responsible for monthly newsletter and calendar planning
f. Perform computer work as required
g. Help enhance the environment through seasonal and monthly decoration along with the HD
h. Have an outgoing inventory of activity supplies
4. Serve as an example of excellence in meeting work requirements
Tasks:
a. Report for and leave work on a timely basis, completing tasks as scheduled
b. Attend in-services and all necessary training
c. Participate in annual performance evaluation process
d. Maintain a professional conduct and pleasant, friendly attitude towards staff, residents and visitors
e. Be willing to learn and change to meet needs that arise
