Role Summary

The Associate Scientist for proteins will be engaged in planning, conducting, and analyzing laboratory-based experiments.  Uses fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of molecular biology to perform scientific research tasks requiring the application of established techniques, procedures, and criteria.

 

Role Responsibilities

  • Conduct quantitative ELISA analysis to support method development, qualification, and validation.
  • Conduct sample lysis and sample analysis of various biological matrices in support of preclinical and clinical studies
  • Assist in the process of developing, optimizing, qualifying, and validating new assays
  • Write and review SOPs and methods
  • Communicate with management regarding project issues, changes, and requirements
  • Maintain laboratory and freezer inventory, manage instrumentation maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Mentor and guide junior laboratory technicians
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline required.  A Master’s degree or Ph.D. is preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience with a wide variety of biochemistry and molecular biology methods for protein analysis including ELISA. A combination of education and experience may be accepted.
  • Experience with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and other federal regulations
  • Solid understanding of study design and protocols
  • Solid understanding of laboratory operations and data collection
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office core applications and the ability to learn and use additional applications.
  • Self-starter, able to prioritize work, and work efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to design, interpret, and present scientific data.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Special Requirements

  • The person filling this position will spend approximately 80% in an office setting and 20% in the laboratory. There will be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There will be handling of, and/or exposure to, animal tissue and zoonotic organisms.
  • Ability to don and wear personal protective gear, including N95 masks and respirators.
  • Physical Requirements:  Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
