Job Purpose or Objective(s): As the Medical Technologist, you will perform routine and special laboratory testing of patient specimens, when evaluating the validity of test results prior to result reporting. You will operate and calibrate equipment, validate data, and communicate with medical personnel regrading test procedures and results. You will report to the Supervisor.

Primary Tasks:

1. Perform medical laboratory testing, validate data, and communicate results to laboratory management and provider staff.

2. Evaluate and operate equipment, instruments, and apparatus required for laboratory testing.

3. Maintain equipment including preventative maintenance.

4. Participate in specimen collection by venipuncture or skin puncture; maintain responsibility for patient identification, specimen labeling, collection verification and instructing patients and providers on the correct collection and preservation techniques.

5. Coordinate the preparation and quality assurance of culture media, chemicals, reagents, stains, and solutions.

6. Evaluate collected laboratory data and prepare reports assessing accuracy, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

7. Participate in the development of new medical laboratory procedures and techniques.

8. Provide technical guidance and instructions to students, interns, and other personnel.

9. Monitor Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and Infection Control practices.

10. Perform other responsibilities as may be assigned.

 

Required Education and Experience:

· Certified in medical technology through: Medical Technologist (ASCP), Categorical and Specialist Certification (ASCP), Medical technologist (AAB), American Medical Technologists (AMT) 

· Knowledge of laboratory instruments and equipment

Qualifications

• Certification in medical technology through AAB, AMT, or ASCP • Knowledge of laboratory instruments and equipment
