Medical Billing Specialist

 

People Incorporated Mental Health Services is seeking a Medical Billing Specialist to join our Finance team. This role is responsible for timely billing, resolving accounts receivable, and providing customer service in accordance with department policies and procedures. The Medical Billing Specialist will work closely with program and finance staff and collaborate across departments to ensure smooth processes and accurate reporting.


Hours: Full-Time, Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm


 Location: Hybrid | Eagan, Minnesota (Minnesota-based position, primarily remote with occasional in-office days as directed by the supervisor) 


Hiring Range: $24.29 – $25.87/hour based on qualifications

Main Job Duties:

  • Responsible for creating and maintaining billing files so invoices are created timely for individuals, insurance companies, state, and county office. 
  • Perform various collection actions which include follow up on past due receivables, resubmit claims to third party payers, send written communication or other electronic outreach. 
  • Work with program and/or middle office to review program charges via various resources including at times clinical documentation to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant charge capture. 
  • Maintain all internal and external documentation of action taken and provide status updates in accordance with organization policies and procedures. 
  • Answer incoming calls to the billing line
  • As directed by the Billing Manager, participate in audit preparation and responding to questions as needed. 
  • Attendance is an essential function of this position. 
  • Performing all other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • High School degree or equivalent 
  • Two years prior billing and reconciliation experience

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Associates of Arts degree in business or accounting 
  • Knowledge of financial reporting and medical coding 
  • One year experience utilizing MN-ITS and PMAP/Commercial payers
  • Prior medical billing and reconciliation experience for various mental health programs
  • Prior medical billing experience within a not-for-profit work environment
