Earnings Potential:        $103,523 - $140,942

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Manager of Fleet Operations is responsible for the overall management, performance, and reliability of MTA Bridges and Tunnels’ fleet of over 500 trucks, cars, and specialized equipment.

This position oversees preventive and corrective maintenance programs, warranty management, and repair quality control to ensure fleet safety, availability, and compliance with regulatory standards.

The Senior Manager administers contracts for repair, maintenance, fueling, communications equipment, and CDL testing services, while also supporting procurement activities as the primary liaison to the MTA Business Service Center (BSC).

This position supervises two staff members and provides leadership, training, and performance oversight to ensure efficient operations and professional development.

The Senior Manager is also accountable for managing vendor relationships, reviewing specifications for new vehicle and equipment purchases, and ensuring timely delivery of essential parts, supplies, and services to operations facilities.

Beyond daily operations, the Senior Manager provides 24/7 emergency response support, coordinates inter-agency requests related to fueling and communications systems, and partners with MTA Headquarters on fleet data and procurement matters.

This role requires balancing cost control with safety, compliance, and operational readiness, and involves frequent interaction with individuals at all organizational levels, external vendors, and regulatory agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s in Engineering, Transportation, Systems, Technology, Project Management, Facility Management, Fleet Management, or Asset Management preferred.

Must have a minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible management experience in fleet operations, automotive repair, or related transportation/maintenance fields.

Must have at least 2 years of supervisory or managerial experience

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Functional experience in procurement, contract administration, or budget analysis.

Valid Driver's License in the State of New York

Knowledge of New York State and Federal regulations governing motor vehicle operations, including Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) requirements

Proficient computer skills (i.e., Windows environment, Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft, Oracle, etc.), and strong business administrative skills (i.e. presentations, report and letter writing, time management, etc.)

Strong knowledge of contract management, budget analysis, and the preparation of technical specifications.

Comprehensive understanding of fleet maintenance and automotive repair procedures.

Technical knowledge of radio communications systems, including Mobile/portable radios, Repeaters and antennas, Trucking systems, LTE communications.

Ability to integrate Authority and vendor schedules to ensure timely completion of fleet maintenance, repairs, and new equipment installation while maintaining operational readiness.

Demonstrated ability to manage warranty programs, fuel management systems, and new vehicle installations by vendors. Strong administrative skills to balance technical requirements, vendor oversight, and in-house operations to deliver timely, safe, and cost-effective fleet performance.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Must have focus and ability to deliver on results, organizational effectiveness, and continuous improvement.

Must possess excellent team building, listening, problem solving, and prioritization skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Familiarity with Bridge and Tunnel procurement practices and New York State Office of General Services (OGS) commodities and services.

Knowledge of MTA Bridges and Tunnels policies and procedures related to procurement and contract administration.

Certified DEC A/B Operator License
