Position Overview

Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering (KIWE) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern in the Lenexa, Kansas office. We are looking for Ideal candidates to grow the Kiewit team by helping establish, maintain, and improve company standards and tools while also utilizing these standards and tools to contribute to project success. Candidates shall be familiar with current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software with an understanding of design documentation creation and layouts. Candidates shall be capable of exhibiting flexibility in work assignments while maintaining a growth mindset and continuing to develop in their technical and professional career.

The Industrial Group projects span markets such as advanced technologies; mining, minerals and metals; process industries; industrial energy; drinking water; wastewater treatment and biosolids; desalination; and industrial water.

Location

This position is based in our Lenexa, KS office.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design of various mechanical systems typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, water and wastewater treatment, pump stations and pipeline conveyance, groundwater remediation, stormwater recycling, and other industrial facilities including, but not limited to, process piping, conveying systems, dust collection, general plant/facility water, compressed air, steam, and gas systems.
  • Assist in preparing design calculations and equipment specifications typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, water and wastewater treatment, pump stations and pipeline conveyance, groundwater remediation, stormwater recycling, and other industrial facilities including, but not limited to, bulk solids conveyors, dust collection equipment, bins/tanks, pumps, heat exchangers, boilers, and other process equipment.
  • Collaborate with the team in preparing and reviewing design deliverables in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards.
  • Support coordination efforts with various design partners, both internal and external - including construction partners, equipment suppliers, and other engineers and designers assigned to the project or task and review work progress and results.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • GPA above 3.0 preferred 
  • Proficient in basic computing programs including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with AFT Fathom or AFT Arrow hydraulic simulation software (or equivalent) is a plus
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
