Position Purpose and Objectives
The Home Equity Closer plays a critical role in delivering an exceptional and unexpected member experience through the precise and timely processing of Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) loans. This position ensures the accurate preparation, review, and funding of loan documentation while maintaining full compliance with regulatory and internal standards. The Closer/Funder works collaboratively with team members, title partners, and internal departments to drive operational efficiency and minimize errors throughout the funding and post-closing cycle.
Major Duties and Essential Functions
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of Home Equity loan closing documents.
- Manage assigned pipeline for daily closings and funding with urgency and precision.
- Review final signed closing packets for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal and external requirements.
- Conduct thorough pre-audit and analysis of documentation to prevent post-closing issues.
- Process and fund all HELOC loans with error-free execution.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with internal departments, external partners, and members via phone, email, and in person.
- Maintain detailed tracking of missing or corrected documents; follow up promptly to ensure timely resolution.
- Provide expert support for member and staff questions related to closing requirements.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to streamline operations and reduce turnaround times.
- Stay current on mortgage products, regulatory updates, and HELOC guidelines.
- Support business goals while upholding all bylaws, regulatory policies, and audit standards.
- Keep work area organized to foster efficiency and compliance readiness.
- Complete any additional duties assigned by Home Equity Operations Manager or Senior Home Equity Processor.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Strong proficiency in time management, multitasking, and high-volume loan processing.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to delivering error-free work.
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Active MLO registration through the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System & Registry (SAFE Act).
- Maintain valid Notary registration.

Knowledge of loan policies, procedures, and loan documents to perfect liens on collateral securing loans (Homestead/Real Estate).
The ability to operate Call Management System. Must effectively communicate via telephone with members and other individuals who contact the Home Equity/Real Estate Department.
Good communication skills, using courtesy and proper grammar, to discuss credit union’s policies and procedures.
An ability to perform multiple tasks while maintaining a high standard of performance
Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two years of experience in loan processing or funding analysis.
Experience: Minimum 1-2 years or more of similar or related experience.
