About TruckSmarter

Logistics is one of the single largest industries in the world. Globally, logistics is an $8–$12 trillion dollar industry and in the US alone, ~ $2 trillion, representing ~10% of GDP. A single percent of improvement drives profound change to every corner of the world—from the cost of goods, to the livelihoods of local communities, to even the impact on our environment.

To reshape the industry, at TruckSmarter, our focus is first on truck drivers. Trucks move 71% of freight in America (~$900bn annually) & the trucking industry represents nearly 6% of the full-time jobs in the country. Every item you see has sat on a truck at one point on its journey to you. Yet, despite the industry’s enormous scale and importance, it remains deeply fragmented and structurally misaligned.

Our mission is to fix that—and we need your help.

The Role

We’re looking for senior software engineers to help us realize TruckSmarter’s vision of eliminating inefficiencies across the freight industry. You’ll be at the forefront of building text- and voice-based AI agents that can drive external communication, perform reasoning, execute actions, and continuously self-improve.

As a senior engineer, you’ll play a critical role not only in building systems but also in shaping our technical and product strategy. You’ll mentor peers, influence architectural decisions, and help us define what best-in-class AI-driven logistics software looks like.

In this role, you will:

  • Partner closely with product, design, and leadership to define and evolve the architecture for agentic AI systems that scale across multiple product surfaces.

  • Own the design and delivery of complex features end-to-end, balancing tradeoffs between velocity, scalability, and long-term maintainability.

  • Lead technical discussions and architectural reviews, ensuring our systems remain robust, extensible, and secure.

  • Guide the integration of GenAI agents with traditional ML systems (classification, recommendation, optimization) to create hybrid intelligent workflows.

  • Establish engineering best practices around testing, observability, deployment, and performance monitoring for AI-driven features.

  • Proactively identify product and infrastructure bottlenecks, propose innovative solutions, and drive them to completion.

  • Mentor and coach other engineers, raising the technical bar of the team.

  • Stay ahead of emerging AI frameworks and technologies, evaluating and introducing them when they create real product advantage.

What Excites You

  • Impact at scale — shaping the core systems that will redefine a $900B industry.

  • Being trusted with broad ownership: from concept to production to iteration.

  • Applying cutting-edge agentic AI architectures in real-world, high-stakes environments.

  • Tackling deeply technical problems with pragmatic, scalable solutions.

  • Helping define not just our codebase, but our engineering culture and product strategy.

  • Collaborating directly with end users to deliver meaningful financial success for truck drivers.

What Excites Us

  • 5+ years of industry experience, including leading projects end-to-end.

  • Demonstrated ability to design, build, and ship complex, production-grade systems.

  • Extremely curious about LLMs and Agentic AI architectures.

  • Experience in fast-paced, startup environments where you’ve had to wear multiple hats.

  • A track record of mentoring engineers and shaping team practices.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (or equivalent practical experience).

What Success Looks Like

  • Craft — Deliver elegant, reliable, and performant software that delights users.

  • Ownership — Drive initiatives from ideation through to production, championing solutions that align with business goals.

  • Leadership — Elevate the team by providing mentorship, sharing expertise, and influencing the broader technical direction.

Working Model: TruckSmarter offers an in-office collaborative culture. This role is based in our downtown San Francisco office, with in-office presence three days per week (typically Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays).

We’d love for you to join us on this journey and are excited to review your application!
