Account Clerk II: $22.86 - $29.18/hour
The City of Redding is accepting applications for the position of Account Clerk I/II to fill a full-time position in the Solid Waste division of the Public Works Department.
This recruitment will be merged with the existing Account Clerk I/II eligibility list from January 2025 and will be used to fill the current vacancy, as well as subsequent vacancies (City-wide) that occur during the life of the list.
Position Duties
- Accepts and/or verifies collections, receipts and other financial data.
- Computer entry of account information.
- Posts checks, balances, payroll entries and adjusts accounts.
- Gathers tabulates, and proofreads statistical or financial data.
- Makes arithmetical calculations and checks various statistical or accounting tables and reports.
- Type reports, memorandums, letters, quotation requests and requisitions.
- Schedules, indexes, and files documents and other papers.
- Maintains departmental inventories.
- Contacts customers by verbal or written communication.
- Maintains records.
- Schedules use of pool vehicles and issue credit cards.
- Communicates by radio with employees in the field.
- Accept payments, process receivables and enter into computer.
- Count and balance pay stations; post, check, balance and adjust accounts.
- Gather, tabulate, and proofread statistical and financial data.
- Keep special ledgers.
- Prepare and/or enter various reports into the CRT terminal.
- Check forms, records, reports, applications and other materials for accuracy, completion and conformance with established procedures and make routine follow-up if necessary to secure additional information.
- Post a variety of information from standardized media to various types of control records.
- Perform proofreading and comparing requiring the assembling of information from different sources, and the use of discretion in recognizing discrepancies.
- Meet the public and answer inquiries about procedures and policies; answer telephones and provides information.
- Assist with assessment information and computation of pay-offs.
- Coordinate, organize, process and prepare the City-wide payroll function including the tabulating and data entry of payroll deductions, personnel action forms, W-4 forms, updating group insurance records and reports, correcting and updating employee history records, maintain personnel transaction and position vacancy reports, review and correct biweekly exception report, review and distribute biweekly payroll reports; receive and process unemployment claims information.
- Coordinate and/or review the work of lower level clerical accounting employees engaged in general clerical work and financial record keeping activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic accounting or bookkeeping procedures
- Knowledge of methods, practices, and terminology used in financial and statistical record keeping
- Knowledge of modern office procedures and practices
- Knowledge of effective customer service skills
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic
- Knowledge of filing systems and procedures
- Ability to interact effectively with the public and employees
- Ability to post and make arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately
- Ability to operate calculators, cash registers, personal computers and software, including word processing and spreadsheet, and other standard office equipment
- Ability to compare names and numbers accurately and rapidly
- Ability to accurately perform data entry
- Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
- Typical education would include a high school diploma, or equivalent.
- Typical experience would include 2-3 years in a related clerical field, which included working with the general public.
Other Qualifications
Examination Process: The examination process may include an oral board examination, a written examination, practical examination or any combination thereof.
- This recruitment will be adding to an eligibility that may be used to fill current and future vacancies that occur during the life of the list.
- If you are a current City of Redding Employee and took and passed the Account Clerk examination from January 2021 or later, you are not required to retest and may retain your prior score, OR, if you prefer, you may retest to receive a new score. You will not have the option of retesting and keeping the better of the two scores. Your name may remain on the eligibility list for a period of five years before you will be required to test again, unless significant changes are made to the examination. Either way, you must select the appropriate box on the supplemental question that asks to either "Retest" or "Retain" your previous score.
