SA-TECH has supported all instrumentation efforts of the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) Prototyping, Instrumentation, and Experimentation (PIE) Group and the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD) Airborne Instrumentation Systems Division (AISD) since September 2015 through two consecutive contract awards. Our support encompasses the full spectrum of instrumentation from design (engineering and drafting) to fabrication and installation, to the day-to-day support (calibration, preflight support for Test/Evaluation, post-flight support). The breadth of customers that PIE supports ranges from U.S. DoD and partner nations to the occasional support of commercial projects for industry partners as well as the entertainment industry. Work is performed at three geographically-separated locations: Patuxent River, Maryland; China Lake, California; and Point Mugu, California.
SA-TECH is currently seeking to hire a Machinist/Technician (Engineering Technician IV) to serve as a mid-level technician in the Machine Shop for our Advanced Packaging Support Department, supporting engineers and machine shop personnel in the mechanical fabrication, mechanical assembly, test and installation of prototype parts used in aircraft systems. This position will be based at Naval Base Ventura County, Point Mugu, CA.
As a CNC Machinist and programmer, you must be proficient in CAD/CAM software, either GibbsCam or MasterCam preferred. This position manufactures complex parts from raw stock of different kinds of metals, metal alloys and other materials through the use of machine tools and precision handwork. Most items are complex and will require coordination of the work of several skilled trades in completing specialized work segments.
The position will be based at Naval Base Ventura County at Point Mugu, CA.
Specific duties include (although others may be added as needed):
- Program and set up CNC mills and lathes
- Operate CNC mills, lathes, and band saws
- Operate conventional equipment such as bench grinders, hand tools, deburr equipment, etc.
- Read and interpret blueprints for inspecting parts
- Use measuring instruments such as micrometers, height gauges, calipers, gauge pins and thread gauges
- Clean, sort and organize
- Perform minor assembly work including helicoils, nut plates, nuts, bolts, etc.
- Provide technical guidance to lower-level technicians.
- May participate in planning for manufacturing, or repair items by determining facilities, equipment, material and number and type of personnel required.
Work Conditions:
- Conditions will vary although most of the work will be accomplished in enclosed buildings.
- Work will include 45% standing, 25% walking, 20% sitting, 5% reaching, and 5% lifting.
- The employee must be capable of lifting 50-100 pounds assisted by others and be able to lift 40 lbs. to waist unassisted.
- Must able to stand/sit for long periods of time ,
- Must be able to work without direct supervision.
- Must be able to drive a few times a month within southern California from Point Mugu to Burbank, China Lake, and occasionally to San Diego.
Requirements
Education/Experience/Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- At least nine (9) years of experience (12 years or more desired) performing relevant duties with at least five (5) years of machine operating experience, a minimum of one to three (1-3) years of set up experience and two (2) years of CNC programming.
- Fluent understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Able to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, drawings, and 3-D models.
- Able to use basic measuring tools such as micrometers, gauges, calipers, etc.
- Has experience with conventional machines.
- Current Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
- U.S. Citizenship required and you must be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to hire date and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.
- All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.
