Hours: 8:00 - 5:00 Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week

The Dental Healthy Communities Specialist will perform a variety of customer service, clerical, and office assistance tasks including data entry associated with the dental community program clinical and fixed clinics. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Processes dental consent forms including but not limited to data entry of demographics, verification of insurance in NC Tracks and scanning all items into IdentalSoft
  • Performs administrative functions within the Community Portable Dental Clinic including but not limited to on-site setup, moving dental equipment, review of schedule with nurse or designee 
  • Completes administrative functions associate with community screenings and/or data collection including but not limited to follow up on positive findings 
  • Assists in putting together screening totes, toothbrush bags and educational materials for community events 
  • Provides oral hygiene instruction, education and participates in activities at community events (e.g., pre-schools) 
  • Maintains dental appointment schedule within specific scheduling guidelines
  • Maintains working knowledge of NC Medicaid, NC Tracks, Dentrix Enterprise, Dexis Imaging, Lighthouse and common insurance plans to assure accurate communication with patients 

Education/Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • Thorough knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, and office assistance techniques 
  • Knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic 
  • General knowledge of dental facility resources 
  • Knowledge of the communities served and understanding of recommendations and guidelines of oral health care for infants, children, and adults and special needs clients 
  • Ability to follow and apply policies and procedures 
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills 
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with clients, community partners, school administrative staff, nurses and the general public
