Responsibilities:

  • Work with our team to tackle traffic signal operations tasks including:
    • Respond to alarms and complaints for traffic signals.
    • Track signal actions tasks from creation through completion.
    • Access/monitor/modify traffic signal timing in traffic control software
    • Data cleanup/updates/configuration in traffic software.
    • Verify that Timing Plans are set up correctly.
    • Set up Detector Diagnostics.
    • Set up signals in Automated Traffic Signal Performance Metrics (ATSPM).
    • Identify locations for smart devices (CCTV, travel time detectors, etc.).
    • Log projects and maintenance contract work in inventory database.
    • Maintain and prioritize list of signals for retiming and fine tuning.
    • Report on Signal Operations Performance Measures.
    • Provide Emergency Temporary Active Management of traffic signals.
    • Proactively monitor signal operations for potential signal timing improvements.
    • Training and support of internal and external staff.
    • Monitor data for potential equipment malfunctions.
    • Monitor for accidents, abnormal traffic volumes/congestion and malfunctions at intersections which may require adjustments to timing plans.
    • Implement traffic plans as directed and as required to address traffic conditions, incidents, and events.
  • Perform Traffic Signal Optimization/Progression Analysis
  • Prepare traffic operation and safety studies
  • Review project existing conditions
  • Coordinate traffic count data collection
  • Review current and planned projects for impacts to signal operations
  • Meet with local agency traffic operations and planning development review staff
  • Perform Qualitative Assessment of intersections and corridors – including pedestrians & bikes
  • Create and update Intersection and Corridor Inventory
  • Perform Intersection and Corridor Crash Analysis
  • Perform turn lane length evaluations
  • Prepare B/C Ratio and Net Present Value of Crash Reduction Benefits using HSIP guidelines and Highway Safety Manual
  • Prepare / Review Site Traffic Analysis

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Civil or Transportation Engineering. M.S. in Transportation Engineering preferred. At least 3 years of experience in Transportation engineering and/or traffic signal engineering. 
  • Hands on experience/working knowledge of various traffic signal controller, cabinets and systems.
  • Ability to develop Traffic Signal Timing Plans, Optimization and Coordination dependent on Time of Day (TOD), Incidents or Planned Events.
  • Ability to determine when to create or implement different timing plans along corridor.
  • Hands on experience/working knowledge of various central and local traffic signal software and hardware
