Job Summary:

In conjunction with the Campus President, Dean, and Program Chairs, support the academic department by providing academic advising to students at the campus. Participates in the new student experience by participating in New Student Orientation. Engages students in decision-making processes and promotes appropriate and responsible choices on academic matters such as course selection and degree requirements, schedules, academic policy, and future career exploration. Maintains appropriate confidentiality, updates student advising records, and contributes to the development and delivery of academic advising-related events and programs. Works to ensure students receive accurate, timely, and holistic advising services in support of promoting student success, retention, and program completion. Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.  Provides support in the campus re-enrollment initiatives and works closely with other departments to ensure a smooth transition to employment post-graduation.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to all Company policies and procedures and operates at all times within state and federal statutes and regulations and within standards of accreditation.
  • Develops academic plans and provides academic advising for students at the campus.
  • Evaluates new student assessments and provides advising to prospective students to ensure post-enrollment success.
  • Meets with assigned students ongoing during their tenure with the college.  Documents all meetings and communication in Anthology or applicable student database.
  • Participates in New Student Orientation.
  • Provides referrals for students in need of community resources and support. 
  • Maintains documentation of student advising activities. 
  • Maintain membership with National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), attends monthly meetings, and participates in committee membership.
    • Performs other duties or special projects as assigned.
    • Maintains professional and effective working relationships with all other College personnel.
    • Conducts his or her professional and personal life in a fashion that fosters a positive impression of the Company.
    • Performs the job on site when required.  Remote work is appropriate when onsite work is not required.  Subject to change if superseded by Human Resource policy regarding remote work.  

Job Requirements

Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent. 

Experience:

  • Two (2) years of experience in student services, professional academic advising, student services, social work, or counseling.
  • Knowledge of student advising, student development theory, and/or career development theory.
  • Knowledge of current market and job trends relevant to preparing students for the world of work.
  • Knowledge of and ability to coordinate programs, develop event assessments, and utilize technology.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, public speaking skills, and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to uphold basic ethical practices of the NACADA.
  • Ability to develop a sensitivity and awareness of the needs of special populations such as ethnic/racial minorities, people with disabilities, veterans, and non-traditional students.
  • Ability to engage and teach multiple audiences in multiple forms.
