Optim Medical Center Screven is seeking a full time Licensed Practical Nurse (7pm-7am) for the Sylvania, GA location.

General Summary Of Duties:  

Provides direct and indirect patient care in the medical-surgical setting that meets the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care; meets the communication needs of patient and family; provides care that reflects initiative and responsibility indicative of professional expectations, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Maintains regulatory agency requirements, nursing and hospital policies, procedures and standards. Communicates with physicians and team members about changes in patient’s clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies and symptomology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision. 

Supervision: Reports to Nurse Manager 

Education, Training and Experience: 

Graduate of an accredited LPN program. Current LPN licensure in the State of Georgia. Current BLS certification. Minimum of six (6) months to one (1) year work experience or completion of accredited LPN program. Successful completion of arrhythmia course. 

Language Skills:

Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.

Additional languages preferred. 

Skills:

Basic computer knowledge.

Basic clinical nursing skills. 

Supervision Exercised: Nursing Assistants 

Typical Physical Demands: 

Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Lengthy periods of sitting and standing. Moving equipment, assisting with positioning and movement of patients, carry and lift equipment and instruments, exposure to anesthetic gases, hazardous chemicals, blood and body fluids, sharps, and cleaning solutions. Requires full range of  body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Frequent standing walking or other means of mobility for extended periods of time. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. 

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Provides direct patient care under supervision of a RN, evaluates outcomes, consults with other healthcare team members as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
  2. Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients, under the direction of an RN, and reassessments as per policy. This includes neonate, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients and the general patient population.
  3. Ability to adequately assess, reassess and treat pain.   Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques.  Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
  4. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  5. Obtains EKG’s and demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifies dysrhythmias
  6. Able to ventilate a patient with mask/ambu bag when necessary.
  7. Maintains accurate and continued nursing documentation including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses and assessment of changes.
  8. Will administer medications via all routes (IM, Subcu, IV, PO, Rectally, Topically, Intradermally and Inhalation).
  9. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.  Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family.  
  10. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patients served.  Able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.
  11. Interacts professionally with patient and family and involves patient and family in the formation of the plan of care.
  12. Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; includes family in teaching, as appropriate.
  13. Demonstrates knowledge of admission process to the hospital when necessary.
  14. Maintains current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and his/her clinical condition and administers appropriately.
  15. Follows the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
  16. Performs venipuncture, prepares, hangs, monitors and discontinues IV fluids.
  17. Demonstrates knowledge of lab requirements, requisitions.
  18. Maintains established hospital and department policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  19. Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with emergency department standards.
  20. Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.
  21. Assists in cost containment through appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.
  22. Ability to perform waived testing (point of care testing) per Clinical Laboratory’s and the ED’s policies and procedures.
  23. Ability to interpret the results of waived tests; takes appropriate action on waived test results.
  24. Maintains good working relationship with ED staff and physicians.
  25. Demonstrates the ability to assist physicians with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of an RN.
  26. Medical and surgical asepsis is carried out during treatments and special procedures.
  27. Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  28. Response to the patient is appropriate in emergency or physically distressful situations.
  29. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  30. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-services and workshops; shows responsibility for ongoing education.
  31. Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
  32. Completes annual education requirements.
  33. Maintains regulatory requirements.
  34. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  35. Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
  36. Wears identification while on duty.
  37. Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion.
  38. Attends annual review and department in-services, as scheduled.
  39. Attends at least 10 staff meetings annually, reads and returns all monthly staff meeting minutes.
  40. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  41. Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
  42. Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  43. Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department.
  44. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
