POSITION TITLE: Pharmacy Technician I
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
DEPARTMENT: Tribal Health
SUPERVISOR: Pharmacy Director
GRADE: NE9 $17.84 ($37,107.30) – $26.76 ($55,660.80)
Position Summary:
Under direct supervision the Pharmacy Technician I is responsible for assisting the Pharmacist in ensuring the effective and efficient provision of pharmaceutical care for patients within the scope of the Washoe Tribe Health Clinic. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
· Responsible for proper stocking of incoming drug supplies assuring that all items requiring special handling receive it.
· Responsible for the timely filling of prescriptions for pharmacist review.
· Responsible for counting, pouring, measuring and weighing tablets and medications, filling prescriptions in a timely manner.
· Responsible for mixing medications.
· Responsible for maintaining patient profiles.
· Responsible for answering phones and responding to questions or requests.
· Responsible for supplying and monitoring any robotic machines used for medication filling.
· Responsible for being aware of the latest medicines and their availability.
· Assists in maintaining pharmacy stock record for expendable pharmaceuticals.
· Assists in measuring units, labels packages and initiates proper storage.
· Maintains pharmacy and storage areas in a clean, neat condition, including cleaning of all equipment.
· Responsible for data entry in pharmacy software program.
· Responsible for the timely ordering of medications through the prime vendor system.
· Marks and stocks medications (including patient orders).
· Responsible for medication outdates inventory in a timely and consistent schedule.
· Responsible for the scheduled maintenance and calibration of medication counting machines.
· Responsible for the following: retrieval of medication from stock to fill prescription order, wholesale order processing, receiving and stocking, count medications for prescription orders, affix labels to vials for prescription orders.
· Responsible for inventory, ordering and stocking of vials, bottles, medications, pharmacy reference materials, and other related department supplies.
· Assists the pharmacist with telephone calls, patient requests, and other related communications.
· Responsible for performing Pharmacy Assistant duties when necessary. Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
· Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic.
· Knowledge of records management procedures.
· Knowledge in brand and generic names of drugs, common dosing regimen of medications, medical terminology and abbreviations, classes of drugs, narcotic category and limitations, and adverse drug reactions.
· Demonstrate problem solving abilities.
· Ability to operate pharmacy software.
· Ability to obtain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification with six months of hire.
· Ability and skills to effectively interview patients and to write clearly.
· Ability to handle stressful/busy situations.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality.
· Ability to stand for long periods of time.
· Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).
· Self-motivated and able to work independently.
· Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
· High School Diploma or General Educational Diploma (GED) and must be willing to become certified as a Pharmacy Technician by obtaining appropriate education and experience beginning within 6 months of hire.
· Must possess and maintain a valid California or Nevada driver’s license or capable of obtaining one within thirty-days (30) of employment.
· Must be able to be insurable by the Tribe’s Driving Policy.
· Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit and stand for long periods of time; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear; see objects at close vision and be able to identify and distinguish colors and markings; pick and pinch small tablets with fingers and seize, hold, grasp or turn objects with hands. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee occasionally is required to operate a motor vehicle; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in an pharmacy setting with a moderate noise level.
The Washoe Tribe of Nevada & California requires a background check of each new hire for employment purposes. Therefore, all conditionally offered positions will be subject to the following:
· Negative alcohol and drug screen
· Meet requirements of Public Law 101-630
· Obtain or possess a valid driver’s license for either the state of Nevada or California within 30 days
· Must be insurable under the Washoe Tribe’s driving policy
