Finance Manager (FM) (40 hours, Full-time) Exempt


BUILD, Inc. (Broader Urban Involvement and Leadership Development) is presently seeking a committed, self-motivated, and innovative individual to join our team. BUILD is a nationally respected gang intervention, violence prevention, and youth development organization based on Chicago’s West Side. BUILD is looking for an experienced and entrepreneurial professional to join our team as the very first Finance Manager in our 56-year history! The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing budgets, analyzing financial data, developing forecasts, and providing insights that drive business decisions. The successful candidate will possess excellent analytical and technical skills, strong business acumen, and the ability to think strategically. This position requires excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, and the flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment. You’ll work closely with the CFO and C-levels with the opportunity to make your mark with an established and respected non-profit leader providing vital services to Chicago’s rising west side. This position will report to the CFO and supervises one direct report (FP&A Analyst).


Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the annual agency budgeting process.
  • Develop financial plans, and forecasts for the organization.
  • Monitor and analyze budgets and forecasts to identify potential problems and opportunities 
  • Prepare and present financial reports to CFO, senior leadership and Board of Directors. 
  • Establish & maintain regular reporting to internal stakeholders, e.g.: program- and grant-specific performance reports for managers and directors.
  • Analyze financial trends and data to make recommendations maximize grant funds utilization. 
  • Monitor and analyze financial data to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Analyze financial data to support decision-making regarding potential investments. 
  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures. 
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Manage and review financial statements, budgets, and other reports.
  • Provide financial modeling and analysis for strategic planning and forecasting.
  • Identify risks and opportunities in the financial data.

Requirements

 Need-to-haves:

  • Bachelor's/Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
  • Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, conditional formatting, pivot tables, data queries, solid data table management techniques).
  • Ability to drill down into details in order to get a clearer view of the “big picture”
  • Curiosity about how data and systems interact, and cause-and-effect dynamics.
  • Robust model-building techniques.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule five days per week at our beautiful, brand-new offices.
  • Proven experience in financial planning and analysis.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial modeling, forecasting, and budgeting.
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures.
  • Understanding why that green M&M clause was really in those concert riders.
  • Ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Preference for proper process documentation.
  • Expertise with Quick books Desktop, specifically importing/exporting data, adjusting fields/views and customizing financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with public grants; including the application, reporting & vouchering processes.
  • Experience with non-profit accounting & finance operations.
  • Familiarity with third-party platforms, including Bill.com, Paylocity, Expensify, Little Green Light and/or Apricot.
