Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and monitor daily and weekly shift work plans and staffing in conjunction with Production Control; monitor and assure proper staffing of trained personnel in all key operational areas of Melt department; immediately appraise the Manager of any significant quality or productivity problems to assure immediate corrective action.
- In coordination with Production Control, Quality Control and Materials personnel, achieve perform-to-schedule goals. Work with Maintenance and Human Resources personnel, within specific directions by the Melt Manager, to achieve maximum production and staffing “up-time” consistent with trained manpower and equipment availability.
- Participate in quality and safety reviews and audits to maintain and improve the ISO-9001:2015 implementation of work procedures and policies.
- Advise Manager of challenges, problems, improvements, ideas and opportunities that are fostered by salaried and hourly workers.
- Must perform furnace re-lines, deal with refractory issues, melt temperatures and assure furnace life
- Responsibilities include preparing chemistry samples and operating the spectrometer and Carbon/Sulfur analyzer; Preparing tensile specimens and operating Universal testing machine; Preparing microstructures and analysis; Operating sand testing equipment including Methylene Blue titration test; Directing Ductile Iron treatment process and testing. Assuring iron integrity and verifying results using microscopic and chemical analysis.
- Specifically responsible for the work safety and product quality environment of Melt Department
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- High School Diploma required. BS in Metallurgy, Industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or similar technical discipline preferred. Professional certifications would be beneficial.
- Basic understanding of the principals of electric induction furnaces would be beneficial.
- Minimum of 2+ years of actual Melt operations experience in a high-volume foundry.
- Work in an ISO-9001:2015 environment would be a plus.
- Experience with a union preferred.
- Must have strong work ethic, outgoing and assertive personality and must have excellent team-building skills with subordinates as well as with peers.
- Professional PC literacy skills in MS Word and Excel are required.
- Personal hands-on experience with specific foundry operations.
