Job Overview

 

The Tech. Associate, Transportation Operations will engage with transportation providers and support daily operations at a site level for all modes of transportation. They will also be responsible for overseeing and addressing service failures, continuous improvement initiatives, and managing local damage claims processes. They will also provide front-line dealer support for transportation-related inquiries. This role reports directly to the home office Transportation team and will work in close collaboration with the Parts Distribution Centers (PDCs) inbound and outbound teams. The ideal candidate will have logistical transportation experience and should have a fundamental understanding of distribution centers and their processes. They will have the self-motivation and customer-centric communication skills to develop strong relationships with business partners and internal & external customers to ensure success. 

 

 

Responsibilities

Overall

  • Manage the daily inbound & outbound transportation operations at a site level
     

  • Create and maintain detailed reports on freight deliveries, container counts, claims, and other relevant performance metrics. 
     

  • Provide proactive, front-line support for dealers as it relates to transportation issues – respond in a timely and professional manner to all inquiries.
     

  • Monitor daily exceptions and provide local recovery plans to home office leadership
     

  • Manage on-site damage claims for parts deliveries. This includes the visual inspection of damaged parts, proper documentation, and filing 

    claims with the carriers. Ensure all claims are filed within contractual timelines and that payments are issued within MBUSA requirements. 
     

  • Assist with implementing strategic transportation projects & new carrier onboarding
     

  • Collect and analyze data for business insights and continuous improvement recommendations
    Support and execute strategic projects to help reduce costs and improve service levels

     

     

     

     

    Dedicated Delivery Service (DDS)
     

  • Address Dedicated Delivery Service failures with the local carrier teams, communicate failures, recovery & contingency plans to key stakeholders
     
  • Assist home office in capacity and route engineering exercises 
     
  • Work closely with on-site carrier presence to ensure all loads are dispatched, loaded/scanned accurately, and depart on-time from the PDC each day.
     
  • Be present on the outbound dock to verify no freight is left behind, inspect equipment for correct labeling and any potential safety issues, and escalate to outbound leadership as needed.
     
  • Submit claims for damaged freight and follow through until payment

     

 

Air Freight
 

  • Audit inbound consolidated air freight to ensure quality of product and locate missing shipments
     
  • Submit claims for damaged freight and follow through until payment
     
  • Manage local relationship with air freight providers ensuring service targets are met

 

 

Sea Freight

  • Audit inbound shipments to ensure quality of product
     
  • Oversee the demurrage and detention charges by scheduling inbound containers from port, to trucking yard, to PDC, using FIFO methodology, with the goal of reducing these costs
     
  • Schedule and level load inbound container volume with dray provider
     
  • Manage relationship with dray provider ensuring service and targets are met
     
  • Assist in yard management to ensure containers are staged for unload in correct order
     
  • Create export bookings as needed by the PDC
     
  • Submit claims for damaged freight and follow through until payment

 

 

LTL/FTL/Parcel
 

  • Ensure that all live-loading processes and procedures are being adhered to within the PDC
     
  • Audit outbound palletized freight for correct weights and measurements against BOLs
     
  • Use data to drive fundamental changes in process for cost saving measures
     
  • Monitor and track outbound spend to ensure correct shipping methods are being used
     
  • Audit packaging utilization and provide feedback to leadership for cost-down opportunities
     

 


Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree at an accredited college or equivalent work experience
     

  • Experience in the following: Operational management, transportation management, vendor management, warehousing & distribution, customer service
     

  • A fundamental knowledge of transportation modes and methods with a detailed understanding of logistics and supply chain as a whole
     

  • Knowledge of administrative procedures, process/project development, and system procedures
     

  • Project Management: Knowledge of project management processes, scope, milestones and budget management

  • Vendor Management: Proficiency in working with service providers to ensure expectations are met and processes are followed.
