The City of Clayton Public Works Department is seeking applicants for the position of Municipal Service Technician II- Business Area. The Municipal Service Technician II-Business Area performs skilled and unskilled manual labor to maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of the Business District. Additionally, it involves identifying and reporting potential code violations. This position will also support general Public Works operations and serve as a liaison for issues requiring attention from neighboring agencies. Workers may be assigned specific areas of responsibility within a department, so not all duties may apply to all positions.

The Public Works Department is divided into four divisions - Engineering and Administration, Operations, Facilities Maintenance, and Fleet Services. Comprised of approximately 185 full-time and over 300 part-time and seasonal employees, the average full-time employee tenure is over ten years!

Key duties and responsibilities of the Municipal Service Technician II-Business Area:
- Delivers a safe and excellent customer service experience to our residents and patrons.

- Monitor and remove weeds from sidewalks and rights-of-way within the Business District.
- Inspect trash receptacles, report maintenance concerns to staff or waste haulers, and empty bins as needed and ensuring proper functionality.
- Collect litter and debris throughout the Business District to maintain a clean and welcoming environment.
- Ensure outdoor seating areas remain accessible and free of obstruction.
- Identify and report potential code violations within the Business District, including property maintenance issues, illegal dumping, and signage violations.
- Document potential code violations using provided technology and communicate findings to the appropriate departments.
- Recognizing and report service needs requiring attention from neighboring municipalities, county agencies, educational institutions, or other relevant organizations.
- Assist in maintaining and repairing public streets, parking lots, parkways, medians, and other rights-of-way.
- Operates, maintains, and repairs equipment including trucks, snowplows, spreaders, backhoes, loaders, mowers and all other equipment used in the operations of this department.
- Plant new trees and landscaping while also removing dead or diseased trees as needed.
- Install and maintain street lighting infrastructure.
- Remove snow and ice from city streets, sidewalks, and municipal parking lots during the winter months.
- Assist with seasonal leaf removal from streets during the fall and spring.
- Install traffic control devices and regulatory signage.
- Paint traffic lane markings, parking spaces, and public parking lot lines.
- Support the setup and operation of City-sponsored events.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
These duties are normal for this position, but are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Minimum Qualifications of the Municipal Service Technician II-Business Area Position:
- High School education of equivalent. One (1) year post high school technical training in a trade's related program preferred.
- Five (5) years' previous work experience in streets, utilities, or other related public works experience. A higher level of education may be considered an equivalent for experience.
- Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
Successful candidates for the position will be required to successfully complete additional screening including, but not limited to the following: Background investigation, driver license check, employment and reference checks, pre-employment physical and drug screening.
