Summary
As part of the Worship Team at The Austin Stone Community Church, The Worship Leader (WL) is in charge of the recruitment, auditioning, rehearsing, and leading of the band that they choose to achieve the mission and vision of the Worship Team for the people of The Austin Stone. The WL will lead weekly worship at a congregation and congregation-related events at the discretion of Worship Team leadership. The WL reports to the Congregation Pastor.
Essential Responsibilities
- Maintain worship leadership rhythms as outlined by the Worship Team leadership.
- Cultivate relationships with worship leaders on the Worship Team, following their leadership example.
- Create Sunday service flows based on the direction of the Congregation Pastor.
- Coordinate, schedule, and facilitate weekly or bi-weekly rehearsals with the band, ensuring they are prepared for worship gatherings.
- Provide training, care, and direction to musician volunteers.
- Maintain a continuous learning mindset by developing personal pastoral, theological, musical, and vocal precision.
- Assist, where needed, in the central efforts of the Worship Department projects, including events, musician development, albums, songwriting, and recordings.
- Attend, serve, and lead at all required events and activities for The Austin Stone, including all Creative Ministries huddles and collectives, Sunday services, staff meetings, prayer meetings, special events, and staff development days.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in music, worship ministry, or equivalent, preferred
- 2 years of experience leading worship or equivalent experience
- Previous participation in worship ministry at The Austin Stone, preferred
- Working knowledge of technology and production elements

Interpersonal Skills & Communication - This individual must be energized by meeting, engaging and interacting with others. Has clarity of speech and proper use of grammar. Communicates across different layers of the organization. Able to make effective presentations to diverse groups.
Process Oriented & Organizational Skills - Proven skills in creating, implementing, maintaining, and following through on processes that ensure people are engaged, cared for, informed, and connected. Shows a high level of initiative and attention to detail with processes and systems. Solves problems with creativity and minimal input. Able to successfully develop new and better ways to work and promote a continuous improvement mentality.
Musicality - Musical and vocal proficiency in order to learn and lead a set of songs. Able to write songs or willingness to learn. Theological precision to test song lyrics and create Sunday liturgy. Willingness to seek lessons or accountability to grow to a greater degree of proficiency in these areas. Open to feedback on musical leadership and stage presence.
Leader Development - Demonstrates a willingness to grow in providing musical and spiritual feedback to band and fellow staff members.. Ability to support the leadership of the Congregation Pastor and Production manager, in providing ongoing encouragement when present at their assigned congregation. Ability to recruit, manage, and grow in shepherding a band.
Collaborative Leadership - Collaborate across the organization and with various ministry partners. Ability to lead in concert with other leaders. Ability to integrate multiple perspectives and synthesize them into a cohesive plan. Ability to lead across teams and coach volunteers.

- Occasional lifting of objects up to 30 pounds.
- Subject to loud music, extended periods of singing/talking, standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing and pulling.
- Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as a computer keyboard, mouse, and similar machines.
