Job Description
The Construction Inspector will support Los Angeles World Airport's (LAWA’s) construction inspection and work as a member of LAWA Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Division across multiple projects within LAWA’s Tenant Improvement Program primarily focusing on electrical/IT disciplines. Electrical/IT inspection staff shall have a thorough knowledge of the methods, materials and techniques of the electrical/IT trade; the ability to diagnose violations and hazards in new and existing electrical/IT installations and take a proactive approach during construction; have a general understanding of low voltage systems including fire/life safety and information technology; have the ability to read and interpret contract documents, electrical codes, applicable standards. Electrical/IT Inspectors must have the ability to set priorities, the ability to make decisions and work effectively with minimal supervision, the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with LAWA stakeholders, contractors, construction workers, the public and must conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times.
This is a Full-Time position, with on-site work required Monday-Friday. Hours of shift vary- 6:00AM-2:30PM or Sunday night 10:30pm - Friday 7:00AM.
Key Identifiers
- Candidates must possess a minimum of three years of experience performing inspection.
Candidates must possess a current ICC certification as Commercial Electrical Inspector to apply.
Successfully hired Candidates must provide Proof of NFPA 70E standards training within the last 3 years and Proof of Cal-OSHA 30 hr. training within the last 4 years, prior to assignment
Must be able to work any assigned shift - day, swing, or night - as required to meet the contractor’s construction schedule.
Daily Duties
Conduct comprehensive daily inspections of electrical and IT systems across building and terminal construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and project specifications, review and interpret construction documents including blueprints and shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
Demonstrates strong proficiency in preparing comprehensive daily inspection reports that clearly document the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of all observed construction activities, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and accountability in tracking progress and identifying issues, deficiencies, or safety concerns in a timely manner.
Verify contractor compliance with local and national electrical codes (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70, 70E, 72) and LAWA-specific standards.
Track and document time-and-material work, field changes, and job quantities
Assist in validating contractor progress payment requests based on an approved schedule of values.
Support special inspections and testing activities, coordinating with engineers, contractors, and third-party agencies as needed.
Perform inspections of electrical installations including, but not limited to:
Underground utilities and duct banks
High-voltage switchgear and electrical panels
Conduit racks, conductors, and grounding systems
Interior and exterior lighting systems
Fire life safety systems including smoke/heat detectors and FM-200 suppression systems
Electrical shutdowns, lockout/tagout procedures, and breaker coordination
Inspect IT infrastructure installations such as:
Low-voltage systems (voice/data, security, access control)
Door card readers, security cameras, and public address (P.A.) systems
Communication cabling and equipment rooms
Minimum Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience performing electrical/IT inspections; For task on the Airfield, 3 years or more of experience with airfield lighting is required.
- For task on the Airfield, 3 years or more of experience with airfield lighting is required.
- Electrical/IT inspection staff shall have 3 years or more experience performing electrical/IT inspections for Building Construction.
- Current ICC Certification as a Commercial Electrical Inspector
- Proof of NFPA 70E standards training within the last 3 years
- Proof of Cal-OSHA 30 hr. training within the last 4 years
- Training & knowledge of NFPA -70, 70E, & 72.
- Fall protection and harness training.
- A strong understanding of diverse code requirements.
- Excellent communication and time management skills.
Required Education
High School Diploma (or equivalent).
