Perform routine work, on assigned shift, in and about the plant, yard, docks and coal conveyor system.

Employees are expected to follow the contents of the OVEC-IKEC Code of Business Conduct.  The Code defines both the ethical and legal standards by which employees are expected to operate every day.  It is the responsibility of each of us to maintain the highest level of personal integrity in all of our work efforts.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean up spilled coal, limestone, and gypsum around conveyors, hoppers and dock areas.
  • Unplug coal, limestone, and gypsum hoppers and chutes.
  • Clean coal bunkers.
  • Clean and perform routine lubrication of conveyors and other yard equipment.
  • Assist, as directed, in cleaning of coal yard equipment, yard and plant areas, and similar work.
  • Assist in installing cables on cranes and winches.
  • Assist and perform other manual work pertaining to yard construction, maintenance and repair work.
  • Assist employees of equal or higher classification.
  • Operate Company vehicles as assigned.
  • Perform similar maintenance work for temporary periods, as assigned, at other plants and stations.
  • Maintain equipment, tools and work areas in a clean and orderly condition; clean equipment, tools and work areas after completion of job.
  • Report irregularities and abnormal conditions.
  • Instruct and direct the work of other employees assigned to assist in the work.
  • Perform duties in accordance with operating instructions, safety regulations, and current practices.
  • Perform similar or less skilled work, as assigned.
  • Perform duties in accordance with all applicable federal and state safety laws and regulations, and all applicable company safety rules and operating procedures.

  • Responsible for knowing and complying with the laws and Code of Business Conduct related to the performance of the aforementioned duties.

The work is performed primarily in a field and/or plant setting.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Through a combination of education and/or experience must have sufficient knowledge and skills to perform the duties and/or responsibilities listed above as well as the ability to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the duties and/or responsibilities of higher classifications in the line of promotion.
  • Must have demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be able to understand and follow routine instructions and practices; learn routine operations and procedures; learn the location and layout of yard equipment.
  • Must pass a qualifying examination as determined by the Company.
