GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This position is part of the operations team. This position provides support to CHC/SEK’s Wellness program by helping to ensure that appointments are scheduled in an efficient, accurate and timely manner while understanding revenue cycle and insurance and conveying this information in an understandable manner to providers, staff and patients. This position may be the first interaction that patients have with the wellness team and it is imperative that the interactions, attitudes and practices do not create barriers to care.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Registers patients, updates demographics and verifies insurance information.
  • Scans documents into the EHR (Electronic Health Record), as needed.
  • Schedules patients for initial consult and any follow up visits as needed.
  • Completes prior authorizations for services, if needed, based on patient’s insurance coverage. Communicates any out-of-pocket expense to the patient.
  • Thorough knowledge of our financial assistance program and can inform patients of the program and collect applications.
  • Collect co-pays and payments at the time of service.  
  • Registers patients that present for internal imaging, collecting co-pays and balances as documented in patient’s appointment.
  • Answers phone calls and makes outgoing calls to other offices following up with patients and providers.
  • Assists with or helps to coordinate workplace wellness activities.
  • Inventories medical supplies and materials and orders needed supplies through the purchasing department.
  • Maintains consistent patient flow by monitoring provider schedules and contacting patients to keep schedules full.
  • Helps ensure a clean and safe environment for patients.
  • Performs additional duties, as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Certified as a CNA/CMA preferred
  • Valid Driver’s License required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Social and cultural sensitivity appropriate to ethnically and economically diverse patient-and employee-base
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the rationale of appropriate patient care.
  • Communicates through appropriate channels. Use proper chain of command for patient complaints.
  • Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.
  • Must be computer literate and be proficient in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Must be able to maintain good inter-personal relationship with co-workers and other members of the health care team and the organization.
  • Provide customer service in accordance to the organization’s mission.
  • Be courteous and respectful when interacting with patients and family members.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance to organization’s policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements.

WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally required to sit; regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and rarely lift and/or move up to 45 pounds. This position is regularly required to crouch, kneel, and crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Computer work is frequent and regular. Good lighting and comfortable temperature of ventilation at all times.
