Salary or Pay Band: $90,613 - $122,678 per annum commensurate with experience.
Job Description: The Senior HR Advisor provides expertise on all aspects of human resources management including, but not limited to: human resources policy and administration; training and development; talent acquisition; performance management; compensation and benefits, and job evaluation. The Senior HR Advisor will work collaboratively with the SMA’s senior leadership team to maintain best practices in employee relations and employment standards, keeping informed on emerging developments and industry trends.
This position is based on-site at our office in Saskatoon, SK, with a voluntary hybrid work option subject to approval under our Hybrid Work Arrangement policy.
Key responsibilities include:
• Serves as trusted advisor offering guidance to the association on HR matters.
• Recommends and leads the development of HR programs, initiatives, and leading practice and legally compliant personnel policies and procedures. Advises leaders and employees on the interpretation and application of personnel policies and procedures.
• Leads and manages the full cycle recruitment process for vacant positions, including but not limited to development and coordination of internal & external job postings, short listing, development of interview guides, scheduling & conducting interviews, reference checks, preparing Letters of Offer & Employment Agreements, and managing all candidate questions and negotiations until the search is complete.
• Develops and implements the employee onboarding and orientation process for all new staff and the re-boarding of staff who have been away on leave. Facilitates off-boarding of employees, including terminations.
• Oversees the SMA’s performance management system and monitors its consistent implementation. Recommends, develops, and implements changes in consultation with the senior leadership team, to ensure a leading practice performance management system is in place.
• Develops staff training plans in consultation with the senior leadership team. Coordinates all staff training events and logistics (dates, catering, location etc.). Conducts internal training sessions (i.e., Respectful Workplace training).
• Provides guidance and support to leaders on employee relations issues, including but not limited to conflict resolution and disciplinary actions.
• Provides support to all employees to ensure that concerns and questions are heard, understood, and responded to in a professional manner.
• Provides guidance and support to leaders and employees on disability management and duty to accommodate issues ensuring compliance with relevant legislation (i.e., Human Rights). Develops individual accommodation plans in collaboration with leaders and employees.
• Independently conducts job evaluations. Makes recommendations to the senior leadership team on position classification.
• Ensures SMA’s total compensation package remains competitive within the Saskatchewan market and conducts comparative reviews with agencies that employ resources like that of the SMA. Recommends changes to the senior leadership team as deemed necessary. Leads the external market compensation review conducted every 3 years at the SMA.
• Ensures planning and modification of employee benefit offerings and negotiates plan changes with the insurer. Stays up to date and communicates any changes to staff relating to group benefits. Serves as main point of contact for staff questions and concerns relating to group benefits. Resolve employee questions and problems regarding group benefits by interpreting benefit policies and procedures and liaising with the insurer as required.
• Receives, prepares, sends, and files confidential communications and correspondence.
• Establishes and manages all confidential employee electronic personnel and job files.
• Tracks and maintains logs for leaders on critical milestones such as probationary reviews, yearly anniversary and length of service, employee performance management reviews, and term contract end dates.
• Supports the SMA’s OHS Committee and reporting of WCB incidents including the reports and follow up process. Facilitates WCB ergonomic assessments as required.

Education
• Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Behavioral Sciences specializing in Human Resources Management (or equivalent)
• A minimum of five years of relevant work experience
• A Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation or working towards a designation would be considered an asset
