About the Department

The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician is responsible for will leverage expertise in Autodesk Civil 3D and Bentley OpenRoads, along with other Bentley software, to deliver high-quality civil engineering designs for transportation, infrastructure, and site development projects. This role requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience and proficiency in 3D modeling for civil design applications.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed 3D models for civil engineering projects, including roadways, bridges, and site developments, using Autodesk Civil 3D and Bentley OpenRoads.

  • Create and modify design drawings using Autodesk AutoCAD, Bentley MicroStation, and Bentley OpenBridge.

  • Assists with preparing, updating, revising, designing, and maintenance of maps, surveys, plats, legal descriptions, codes, decisions and reports; supports the interpretation and digitization of remotely sensed data, aerial photography, and satellite imagery.

  • Utilize and Manage Bentley ProjectWise for document management, version control, and project collaboration.
     
  • Perform quality checks on 3D models and drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance with industry standards.

  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure designs meet project specifications, standards, and client requirements. Assist in preparing project deliverables, including plans, profiles, cross-sections, and quantity takeoffs.

  • Coordinate with engineers, surveyors, and other stakeholders to integrate design data and resolve conflicts.

Position Duties

Education and Experience: 

  • Required Associate’s Degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology, CAD Design, or a related field. Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in civil design with a focus on 3D modeling for infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, including roadway design, grading, and drainage.
  • Valid Texas driver's license.
  • GIS Technician I - two years' experience
  • GIS Technician II - three years' experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Understands and can use a linear referencing system.
  • Must be strong in using Bentley OpenRoads, Bentley OpenBridge, Bentley MicroStation, Bentley ProjectWise.
  • Must have basic knowledge of Network Analyst Extension, Cogo tool & Georeference tool.
  • Must be able to create and use tables and be able to join or relate them to other datasets.
  • Knowledge using AutoCAD and/or Microstation. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of GIS principles and mapping software and additional design software.

Physical Demands:

The position is physically comfortable. The individual has discretion concerning sitting, standing etc. when operating in an office environment.  Visits to property sites require good mobility in and around the site locations to include periods of prolonged standing and possible movement up and down stairs.

Minimum Qualifications

Position Type and Typical Hours Work:
This is a full time position. Days of work are Monday-Friday. Hours may vary based on business needs of the department.

Work Environment:
There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature, and air conditions. Occasional visits to property sites may expose individual to less than optimal outside weather and temperatures.

Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
