The IT department is a critical part of this mission, ensuring that our staff and volunteers have the technology they need to deliver these life-changing services efficiently and securely.

Position Summary

We are seeking a proactive and skilled IT System Administrator to maintain and optimize our on-premises and cloud-based IT infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be a compassionate professional who is committed to using their technical expertise to support our mission.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure & Systems Management: Administer and maintain our critical IT infrastructure, including Windows Server, SQL Server, and some Linux This includes managing servers, virtualization platforms (VMware and Proxmox), and networking equipment. Ensure the high availability and performance of systems that support our key programs and specialized non-profit applications.
  • Data Protection & Documentation: Manage and monitor regular system and data backups, ensuring the ability to recover from any potential data loss incident. Maintain detailed documentation of all current and proposed systems and network solutions.
  • Security & Endpoint Administration: Serve as the primary administrator for our Microsoft 365 tenant, managing user lifecycles, permissions, and advanced security features like Conditional Access and MFA. Implement and maintain endpoint security solutions, including Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) and anti-virus Administer Mobile Device Management (MDM) and Intune to secure and manage both corporate and personally owned devices.
  • IT Service Management: Act as a key contributor to our IT Service Desk operations, resolving escalated tickets and ensuring service level agreements (SLAs) are met. Utilize and optimize our ITSM platform, Freshservice, to manage incidents, service requests, and problems. Implement processes that align with ITIL best practices to improve IT service delivery.
  • Automation & Integration: Design, develop, and deploy automation scripts (PowerShell) to streamline repetitive administrative tasks. Implement Zero Touch Provisioning for new devices. Leverage APIs to integrate different systems and automate workflows. Administer our email signature and branding solution, Exclaimer.
  • Projects & Recommendations: Assist in the execution of IT projects, including system upgrades and migrations. Make recommendations for future hardware/software implementations and related process improvements, schedules, plans, and system upgrades.
  • Support & Collaboration: Provide expert-level technical support, acting as an escalation point for complex IT issues.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Problem-Solving: The ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex technical issues with a resourceful approach, often with limited resources.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with technical and non-technical staff and volunteers.
  • Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach to security, configuration, and documentation.
  • Teamwork & Empathy: A strong ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and a genuine passion for the Catholic Charities mission.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a systems administration or similar role, with a strong preference for experience in a non-profit or mission-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the administration of Microsoft 365 services, including OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams.
  • Proven experience in implementing and managing features such as MDM, Intune, EDR, and anti-virus
  • Experience with Freshservice or similar ITSM platforms is highly desirable.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills, particularly with PowerShell and experience with Provisioning and API
  • Experience with virtualization platforms, specifically VMware and/or Proxmox.
  • Knowledge of ITIL principles and experience with asset management.
  • In-depth knowledge of network protocols and services (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certifications, ITIL Foundation) are a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Primarily works in office environment but will also work throughout the agency and off-site.
  • Ability to communicate with donors, volunteers, board members, and co-workers.
  • Ability to operate and use office equipment, especially computer, keyboard and mouse.
  • Ability to continuously sit and/or stand. Ability to climb stairs as needed.
  • May occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
