The Prince George’s County Department of The Environment is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Community Development Aide I/II, grade A05-A07 position, in the Animal Services Division.
About the Position
This is entry to full performance level Intake coordinator position working in the area of animal management. Promptly greets the public both in person and over the telephone to provide animal intake and rehoming opportunities. Understands and adheres to intake procedures to make appropriate recommendations for the animals. Communicates with relevant staff as to ensure proper disposition and return to owner of animals. Work assignments are performed under the general supervision of a higher-level administrative manager.

The Department of the Environment works for a healthy, beautiful and sustainable County through programs that provide clean water, flood control, recycling and waste management, litter prevention, sustainable animal management and pet adoption in partnership with residents and other stakeholders. Some of our core services include providing clean water services (Stormwater Management Division); flooding prevention for buildings and structures (Sustainability Division and Stormwater Management Division); collecting, processing and diverting waste from the County-operated landfill, commercial facilities and householders (Resource Recovery Division); providing sustainability services to reduce greenhouse gas and emission (Sustainability Division); and facilitating pet adoptions, managing an animal holding facility, issuing pet licenses, investigating cruelty complaints and conducting humane outreach and education events (Animal Services Division).
Position Duties
Greets the public as they arrive to the shelter in a professional manner at all times.
Prepares and enters animal information in computer accurately.
Scans all animals to determine if the animal has a microchip.
Processes RTOS (Return to Owners) transactions.
Thoroughly cleans intake kennels and cages.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of the tenth (10th) school grade.
- Residence in the geographic area of work assignment.
- Demonstrated interest in civic or community affairs.
One (1) year of experience working with animals in a professional capacity.
High School diploma or G.E.D.
One (1) year of experience working in a Customer Service role.
One (1) year of experience in inspection and code enforcement work to ensure compliance with animal control codes, ordinances, and standards.
Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
