About the Department

Hiring range is negotiable between $49,194 and $63,942 depending on a candidate's qualifications and experience.

The purpose of this assignment is to analyze and maintain geographic data in support of the engineering and planning functions of the departments.  Successful performance helps ensure that infrastructure data is accurate and facilities efficiency of division operations.  The work consists of varied technical GIS duties.  The need to complete multiple tasks at the same time and to use old and illegible plans and maps contribute to the complexity of the position.

Position Duties

  • Manage and maintain the city’s GIS data in the ESRI ArcGIS Utility Network.  This includes data for water, sewer, and stormwater utilities.
  • Assists planning activities by providing relevant GIS data and maps.  This includes data for land use planning, zoning, transportation planning, and others.
  • Edits, maintains, and researches facilities and reference data.
  • Assists supervisor with facility design and studies.
  • Reviews as-built accuracy.
  • Maintains system files and tile books.
  • Communicates with field crews, contractors, supervisors, and engineers.
  • Performs customer service duties.
  • Assists in the creation and maintenance of databases.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of geographic information principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of basic spatial analysis.
  • Skills in planning, organizing and prioritizing work.
  • Skill in performing mathematical computations.
  • Skill in Knowledge of ESRI software 
  • interpreting maps, plans, and engineering drawings. 
  • Skill in the use of a computer.
  • Skills in oral and written communication.

Other Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education.
  • One year of GIS or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
  • Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
