JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Sr.Director of Clinical Operations, the Clinical Veterinarian is responsible for providing veterinary oversight, clinical expertise, and instructional support for Viticus Group’s hands-on medical education programs. This role includes ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare and regulatory compliance, delivering high-quality clinical education to participants, and supporting the effective utilization of animal health resources. The Clinical Veterinarian will be responsible for overseeing the implementation, and continuous improvement of laboratory operations featuring live animals, helping ensure alignment with organizational goals, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and the long-term success of the Animal Health service lines. 


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE SKILLS & ABILITIES

EDUCATION

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree from an AVMA-accredited institution.
  • Active veterinary license in Nevada.
  • Ability to obtain a DEA license.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 5+ years of clinical veterinary experience (shelter, surgical, or instructional background preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of anesthesia, surgery, perioperative care, and clinical diagnostics.
  • Demonstrated understanding of USDA, DEA, IACUC, and AVMA compliance requirements.
  • Experience supervising licensed veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants to ensure optimum animal care.
  • Ability to support occasional evening/weekend educational events.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally with advanced notice.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Clinical & Technical

  • Demonstrated ability to perform and supervise veterinary procedures with professionalism, precision, and care.
  • Skilled in spay and neuter procedures for dogs and cats, as well as wound care.
  • Experience working with porcine models; training provided to supervise intravenous catheterization, intubation, and anesthesia.
  • Strong working knowledge of medical and surgical equipment, anesthesia management, and tissue handling.
  • High proficiency with clinical documentation, case records, and compliance reporting.

Instructional & Leadership

  • Skilled in providing instruction to diverse audiences, including veterinarians, technicians, and healthcare professionals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor, coach, and collaborate across interdisciplinary teams.
  • Effective verbal communication skills: able to explain complex clinical topics in a clear and accessible manner.
  • Ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and adherence to compliance standards.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES

CLINICAL OVERSIGHT AND ANIMAL WELFARE

  • Provide veterinary oversight and care for live animal programs, ensuring compliance with all USDA, AVMA, and IACUC standards.
  • Oversee anesthesia, surgical preparation, operative support, and post-operative care.
  • Maintain accurate records of procedures, treatments, and controlled substances.
  • Develop medical protocols for in-house animals including those for animal intake, examination, treatment, drug usage, and animal husbandry.
  • Advise on policies and procedures for safe and humane animal handling that prioritize low-stress, gentle handling techniques.
  • Oversee the establishment and implementation of policies and procedures for effective disease prevention, treatment, and outbreak management.
  • Develop and oversee protocols for the purchasing, control, recording, and inventory of drugs, including controlled substances.
  • Advise on medical equipment purchasing, use, and maintenance.
  • Provide professional advice and opinions regarding the development and implementation of department programs.
  • Contribute to staff training on animal health and operations policies and procedures.

EDUCATIONAL INSTRUCTION & PROGRAM DELIVERY

  • Collaborate with external instructors, industry partners, and
  • program managers to enhance educational delivery.
  • Perform spay and neuters on dogs and cats.
  • Perform vaccinations on dogs and cats.
  • Ability to work with pigs overseeing catheter placement, intubation,
  • anesthesia and euthanasia if needed.

COMPLIANCE & SAFETY

  • Ensure compliance with USDA, DEA, IACUC, OSHA, and institutional standards.
  • Support audits, inspections, and regulatory reporting.
  • Promote a culture of safety, transparency, and accountability in all clinical and teaching activities.

COLLABORATION & DEVELOPMENT

  • Partner with Animal Health Operations, technicians, and assistants to coordinate clinical and educational program logistics.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of curricula and training protocols.
