The Council on Recovery is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization whose mission is to keep our community healthy, productive and safe by providing services and information to all who may be adversely affected by alcohol, drugs, and related issues.


The Youth Prevention Counselor provides prevention services to youth in Houston, Harris County, and surrounding areas. Collaborates with program staff, community members, and the Program Manager to support daily operations and program objectives.  


 Responsibilities: 

  • Provide alcohol and other drug abuse prevention services to youth and families in Houston, Harris County, and surrounding areas, including drug education and informational presentations. 
  • Document program activities, administer survey questionnaires to participants, and compile weekly statistical reports. 
  • Respond to information requests and make appropriate referrals to community resources. 
  • Deliver prevention services 37.5 hours per week, adjusting schedule as needed to meet participant needs. 
  • Maintain inventory and organization of program supplies. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support program objectives. 

Requirements

Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services related discipline 
  • Culturally sensitive to the needs of the community 

Experience 

  • Facilitated groups of children 
  • Classroom management skills  

Personal Attributes 

  • Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal 
  • Punctual and accurate in submitting weekly statistical reports on services provided 
  • Good decision making skills 
  • Ability to work as a team member 
  • Able to conduct himself/herself in a professional manner 
  • Bilingual (Spanish preferred)
