DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS JOB DESCRIPTION 

Essential Functions

  Iowa Sports Management's Director of Operations is responsible for managing, coordinating, and supervising all phases of operation including facility maintenance. The Director of Operations will cultivate and grow a strong team of committed District Managers and Club Managers. He/She will act as a liaison between the CEO, District Manager, Club Manager, and the client. He/She develops operational practices and ensures that they are followed so that each club runs smoothly. The Director of Operations coordinates with, reports to and makes recommendations to senior management in order to further company growth. He/she communicates/liaises with any committees designated by ISM, and ensures the preparation, and delivery of, daily, monthly and other periodic reports (e.g. activity, pool readings, financial, time sheets, etc.) as required by ISM.   

  Primary Tasks 

    Maintain overall responsibility for all clubs to ensure each location meets company standards while fulfilling contractual obligations to clients.

    Hire and develop District Managers and Club Managers to create a strong team. Plan and organize the training of District Managers and Club Managers in proper payroll, reporting, Department of Health standards, pool operation and general club management. Ensure District Managers are well-versed in these practices in order to support the Club Managers within their districts. Coach District Managers and Club Managers on overseeing staff, maintaining team morale, and creating a positive environment for all who enter the facility. Support and guide Club Managers through club operations.

    Delegate responsibilities, as deemed appropriate, to District Managers and Club Managers and ensure that they are delegating responsibilities in the same fashion.

    Responsible for performance management of District Managers, Club Managers, Assistant Managers and other employees as needed, including but not limited to evaluating, disciplining or providing positive recognition where required. Plays significant role in termination decisions. 

    Perform regular walkthroughs of clubs within the portfolio to identify areas in need or improvement and facilitate solutions when needed.

    Create and maintain positive relationships with building ownership/management, building boards, etc. to understand and meet the needs and objectives of these stakeholders.

    Daily attendance

    Remain thoroughly apprised of ISM’s and clients’ policies and procedures, and updates thereto.

    Effectively and regularly communicate closely with managers and other ISM office personnel, as needed. 

    Carry out objectives as directed by senior ISM personnel.

     Secondary Tasks 

    Work with District Managers and Club Managers to ascertain needs for supplies, repairs, and maintenance and obtain proposals when needed for building approval.

    Work with senior management to develop company policies and other materials to improve service to clients and employees. 

    Provide senior management with feedback on how to improve club operations.

    Develop rapport with club staff and be familiar with all positions. Be open to suggestions, feedback, etc. to help create a positive working environment for our team.

    Perform club administrative and maintenance tasks (e.g. pool cleaning, minor repair work, et al) as determined by business necessity

     Qualifications Needed 

    Strong problem-solving, detail minded, resolution oriented and interpersonal skills.

    Ability to interact professionally with building ownership/management, building boards and patrons regarding concerns, problems, or any other significant issues. 

    Effective oral and written communication skills.

    Ability to think strategically and align decisions with ISM goals

    Ability to react quickly, change priorities, etc.  Includes ability to work with constant interruptions and adapt to different environments and tasks. 

    A minimum of 2 years of experience in a supervisory role.

    Ability to be on your feet for up to 35 hours per week and lift in excess of 50lbs. Knowledgeable in pool operations, and swimming pool filter and maintenance systems. Will require ability to be in presence of swimming pool and other chemicals, such as chlorine, acid, etc.

    Available for staff and management 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.  Subject to work odd hours (early mornings, late nights, and / or weekends).
