Summary:We are seeking an FPGA Design Engineer III to lead the development of FPGA-based solutions for electronic products in the aerospace, defense, and medical markets. In this role, you will own FPGA design activities across the full product lifecycle—from concept through production—leveraging leading-edge FPGA platforms such as Xilinx, Lattice, and Microchip. You will design and implement complex digital architectures, integrate next-generation high-speed interfaces, and drive innovative approaches to ensure performance, reliability, and long-term product sustainability. Familiarity with radiation-hardened design practices is a plus, as many of our products support mission-critical environments. Must be onsite in Huntsville, AL.
Responsibilities:KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead FPGA design and implementation efforts, driving RTL coding, simulation, synthesis, and optimization to meet performance and reliability standards.
- Architect, integrate, and validate complex FPGA cores and subsystems, ensuring scalability and reuse across product lines.
- Take ownership of high-speed interface design and integration (e.g., PCIe Gen4/5, 100GbE+, DDR4/DDR5), applying leading-edge standards and methodologies.
- Guide system-level FPGA trade-offs, collaborating with hardware, software, and systems teams to refine architectures.
- Perform advanced simulation, verification, and debugging using industry-standard tools.
- Contribute to design reviews, risk assessments, and verification planning with attention to long-term reliability, including radiation-tolerant considerations where applicable.
- Explore and implement emerging FPGA technologies, including new device families and design methodologies.
- Provide technical guidance to early-career engineers through mentorship and collaboration.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in FPGA design and implementation experience using SystemVerilog, Verilog, and/or VHDL.
- Hands-on experience with FPGA platforms such as Xilinx, Microchip, or Lattice; experience with Xilinx Versal, Microchip PolarFire, or Lattice Avant-X is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with radiation-hardened FPGA design principles is desirable.
- Strong expertise in RTL design, advanced simulation/verification, and synthesis flows.
- Demonstrated success in integrating and verifying high-speed interfaces (PCIe Gen4/5, multi-gigabit Ethernet, DDR4/DDR5).
- Familiarity with AXI4-Lite and AXI4-Stream a plus.
- Experience influencing architectural decisions and performing system-level trade-offs.
- Track record of delivering FPGA solutions in high-reliability environments such as aerospace, defense, or medical.
- This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by either ITAR or EAR U.S. export laws. As a condition to this job offer, in order to be employed in this position, you must be able to obtain an U.S. Government export license(s), as required by law.
- Pay Range: $92,000 - $115,000 annually. Applicable pay within the posted range may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographical location, job function of the position, education, and experience of the successful candidate.
