Job Summary: The Wellness Assistant is an integral part of the Fitness and Wellness team within Bethesda. Wellness Assistant is responsible for leading multiple group fitness classes that range in variety and levels from Yoga to Water Aerobics. This includes counting, cueing, organizing choreography, and much more. Instructors will also orientate new members on the equipment and perform general receptionist duties such as answering and directing phone calls, taking messages, scheduling appointments, and keeping the wellness center tidy.
Job Relationships:
A. Reports to: Wellness Director
B. Secondary Reporting: Vice President of Senior Services
C. Interrelationships with: All other staff.
D. Internal Relationships: Club members, residents and their families, and staff.
E. External Contacts: Includes vendors, service and repair professionals, clergy, postal personnel, and delivery staff.
Hours of Work: Evening hours, 10 hours per week.
Dress Code: Appropriate fitness attire and tennis shoes. Shorts and tank tops can be worn during fitness classes, but not while working behind the wellness desk.
Essential Requirements of Work: (Minimum qualifications necessary to function at full productivity.)
1. Education and training:
a. High School Graduate
b. Group Fitness Certified
c. AED/CPR
2. Experience:
a. Prefer experience working in a fitness center, certified fitness instructor or personal trainer.
b. Basic computer knowledge, well-developed typing, word processing skills, and understanding of basic bookkeeping.
3. Knowledge, Skills, and Ability for Successful Performance:
a. Effectively leads scheduled fitness classes, starting and ending on time and incorporating appropriate warm-up, exercises, stretching, and cool down.
b. Demonstrates and instructs proper form and technique to ensure participant safety and effectiveness.
c. Plans, organizes, and leads engaging group fitness sessions, introducing fresh and creative programming ideas.
d. Prepares and maintains all necessary equipment, music, and instructional materials for each class.
e. Demonstrates proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Publisher
f. Ability to answer and direct call politely, professionally and accurately.

Physical Demands of the Job:
1. Lift weights up to 30 pounds occasionally.
2. Keep the locker rooms and exercise area clean and tidy.

Principle Job Responsibilities:
Responsibility: Serve as the initial contact person for members coming to group fitness classes with a positive and professional manner.
Tasks:
a. Serve as an enthusiastic, positive, high energy fitness instructor.
b. Provide exceptional customer service at the front desk.
c. Greet and direct all members with friendliness and courtesy, insuring their comfort within the facility.
d. Respond to member questions and direct them to appropriate areas of the Wellness Center
e. Provide clear, accurate and polite information upon request.
f. Manage physician referrals and permission forms, ensuring they are properly documented and filed in each member’s record.
Responsibilities:
Managing/Understanding Administrative Tasks: Handling administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, maintaining member records, processing payments, and responding to inquiries or concerns from members.
Ensuring Safety and Compliance: Enforcing safety protocols, rules, and regulations within the fitness facility to create a secure and supportive environment for members and staff.
Conducting Fitness Assessments: Performing initial fitness assessments for new members to evaluate their current fitness levels, establish baseline measurements, and identify any specific needs or limitations.
Developing Fitness Programs: Designing and implementing fitness programs tailored to the needs and goals of members. This involves creating workout routines, selecting appropriate equipment and set-up, and ensuring safety standards are met.
