Position Summary:
The Safety Specialist supports the development, implementation, and monitoring of safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements. This role plays a vital part in fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement across all warehouse and transportation operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments in warehouse and transportation areas.
- Assist in investigating accidents, incidents, and near-misses; identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Support the implementation of safety training programs, including new hire orientations and refresher courses.
- Monitor and maintain safety equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, PPE) and ensure availability and compliance.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training, incidents, and other compliance-related documentation.
- Promote adherence to federal, state, and company safety policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with operations, HR, and maintenance teams to address safety concerns proactively.
- Participate in emergency response planning and drills.
- Stay current with OSHA regulations and industry best practices.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certification in safety, industrial hygiene, or a related field preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in a safety role, preferably in a warehouse, logistics, or transportation environment.
- Working knowledge of OSHA and DOT regulations.
- Strong observational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working in varying environmental conditions (hot/cold, indoor/outdoor).
