Title: Social Programs Supervisor (Temporary Position – up to 12 weeks)

Reports to: Assistant Director of Social Programs 

Job Objectives:

  • Directly supervise the Compeer, Compeer Homeless, Friends, WELCOME Orange Geriatric Initiative Gatekeeper/Compeer, and Rehabilitative Social Club Program staff. 
  • Provide direct service to The Family Support Program.  
  • Perform duties while actively promoting an environment consistent with MHA’s Cultural Equity Policy and WELCOME Orange.
  • Represent MHA (Mental Health Association in Orange County) at various community functions as needed. 
  • Maintain statistics for Social Program Department.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to achieve department and organizational goals.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust and cooperation within a team. Encourage collaboration and open communication to foster team success.
  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Compeer/Compeer Homeless Coordinator, Senior Social Program Coordinator, and WELCOME Orange Geriatric Initiative Gatekeeper/Compeer,
  • Provide back-up support for the Friends Program, Rehabilitative Social Club, and planned activities when needed including nights and a possible weekend.
  • Provide direct services for Family Support including monthly support groups and educational programs for families of individuals with mental illness, ensuring relevancy and effectiveness. 
  • Provide crisis intervention, information, referrals, advocacy, and supportive assistance to families as needed both at MHA and community locations throughout Orange County. 
  • Assist families in developing coping mechanisms, problem-solving skills, and strategies for managing symptoms and preventing relapses.   
  • Maintain accurate documentation and data entry into the agency's Electronic Health Records System.
  • Establish and maintain linkages with community agencies and service providers to enhance program outreach and awareness. 
  • Attend designated staff and community meetings, representing the needs of program participants and families.
  • Coordinate and maintain the operation of the Compeer Volunteer Program. Recruit, train, and match Compeer volunteers with individuals with a diagnosed mental illness.
  • Provide oversight into the Compeer Calling Program and ensure regular phone contact with Compeer program participants on the waiting list.
  • Participate in site visits, bi-weekly team and bi-annual WOGI (WELCOME Orange Geriatric Initiative) meetings.
  • Organize and maintain all Compeer program information and volunteer files.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and statistical reports as needed for the Social Programs Division.
  • Represent MHA at Health and Human Service Fairs and community events.
  • Share MHA Community Engagement Orientation facilitation responsibilities with the Community Engagement Specialist.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with 2 years of experience in Human Services

OR

  • Associate degree in related field with 4 years of experience in Human Services.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred 
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Grant writing experience a plus.
  • Public speaking experience required.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be organized, self-motivated and able to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment under crisis situations and to abide by regulations regarding confidentiality.
  • Valid NYS (New York State) Driver’s License and ability to drive with current driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage.
  • Must be clear and maintain an acceptable record under the Medicaid Fraud & Abuse clearance process.
