Description

Be the leader who helps uncover what lies beneath—and build what’s possible above.

At WithersRavenel, our Geomatics Practice Area is growing, and we’re seeking a Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Project Manager to join our team of employee-owners in Cary, NC.

This isn’t just another project management role. This is an opportunity to make your mark—literally—by guiding projects that uncover and map the unseen infrastructure that supports entire communities. If you’re energized by solving complex problems, leading a team with purpose, and building trusted client relationships, you’ll find yourself at home here.

What You’ll Do

As an SUE Project Manager, you’ll be the steady hand guiding projects from first conversation to final deliverable. You’ll:

  • Lead and inspire field crews who rely on your direction and mentorship.
  • Translate underground data into information that engineers and communities depend on.
  • Build strong, lasting partnerships with clients by being the person they trust to deliver.
  • Keep projects on track, balancing scope, budget, and deadlines with skill and integrity.

You’ll not only manage work—you’ll shape careers, strengthen client trust, and make a tangible impact on how communities grow and thrive.

Who You Are

You’re not just a manager. You’re a builder of people, relationships, and solutions. You thrive in a role where no two days look the same—whether you’re in the field helping crews problem-solve, in the office reviewing deliverables, or in front of a client explaining why your work matters.

You are someone who:

  • Finds purpose in collaboration and believes strong teams achieve extraordinary results.
  • Feels pride in delivering accuracy, quality, and safety—because people depend on it.
  • Wants to grow with a company that values both expertise and heart.

Requirements

What You’ll Bring

  • A degree in Civil Engineering, Geomatics, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in SUE, including at least 2 in project management.
  • Technical expertise with AutoCAD, MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and utility locating technologies (GPR, electromagnetic detection, vacuum excavation).
  • A track record of leading teams and building client relationships.
  • A Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license is preferred.

Physical Requirements

The Work Itself

This is a role where you’ll balance field and office life. You’ll need stamina for fieldwork in all weather conditions, the ability to lift 50 lbs, and the focus for extended office time managing projects and client relationships.
