About the Department

This posting as been set up to receive candidate applications for interest in teaching Emergency Medical Services (EMS) courses through the Continuing Education Division at Pitt Community College and will allow our staff to search applications and skills when active class needs are available.
The EMS Instructor delivers high-quality, non-credit, instructions in courses such as EMT, Advanced EMT, Paramedic, and refresher or continuing education programs. Instructors provide both classroom and hands-on lab instruction, ensuring that students develop the knowledge, skills, and competencies required for success in the EMS profession. EMS Instructors play a vital role in preparing students to serve their communities as competent and compassionate emergency medical providers while upholding the mission of the community college and its commitment to workforce development.
Position Duties
• Prepare and teach assigned courses in accordance with course syllabus.
• Maintain accurate registration, attendance, and payroll records for each course taught.
• Prepare, review, and update course syllabus on a regular basis.
• Recommend and assist with curriculum revisions as necessary.
• Use formative and summative assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching.
• Create an effective learning environment and use teaching methods designed for a variety of learning styles.
• Submit required reports and fulfill all contract provisions.
• Assist with maintaining a classroom environment emphasizing safety, good housekeeping, and equipment security.
• Maintain student, instructor, and staff confidentiality. Consistently monitor work area to ensure instructor and student data is being protected according to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations.
• Multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
• Adapt and respond to changing work situations and environments in a positive manner.
• Participate in professional development activities designed to enhance job skills and knowledge, as agreed upon by the employee and supervisor.
• Interact with students, the public, the community, and co-workers in a cooperative, courteous and professional manner.
• Comply with the College’s policies and procedures.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities, as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications will vary depending on the specific EMS course being taught. In general, instructors must hold the appropriate state and/or national certification (e.g., EMT, Advanced EMT, or Paramedic) and possess relevant field experience in emergency medical services. Additional requirements, such as instructor credentials, teaching experience, or specialized training, may apply based on the course level and subject matter.
