About the Department

This posting as been set up to receive candidate applications for interest in teaching Fire and Emergency Management courses through the Continuing Education Division at Pitt Community College and will allow our staff to search applications and skills when active class needs are available.
The Fire & Emergency Management Instructor delivers high-quality, non-credit, instruction in Fire Science, Emergency Response, Disaster Preparedness, and related Public Safety tops. Instructors provide both classroom and practical training to ensure students gain the knowledge, skills, and leadership abilities necessary to respond effectively to fire and emergency situations.
Position Duties
• Prepare and teach assigned courses in accordance with course syllabus.
• Maintain accurate registration, attendance, and payroll records for each course taught.
• Prepare, review, and update course syllabus on a regular basis.
• Recommend and assist with curriculum revisions as necessary.
• Use formative and summative assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching.
• Create an effective learning environment and use teaching methods designed for a variety of learning styles.
• Submit required reports and fulfill all contract provisions.
• Assist with maintaining a classroom environment emphasizing safety, good housekeeping, and equipment security.
• Maintain student, instructor, and staff confidentiality. Consistently monitor work area to ensure instructor and student data is being protected according to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations.
• Multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
• Adapt and respond to changing work situations and environments in a positive manner.
• Participate in professional development activities designed to enhance job skills and knowledge, as agreed upon by the employee and supervisor.
• Interact with students, the public, the community, and co-workers in a cooperative, courteous and professional manner.
• Comply with the College’s policies and procedures.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities, as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications will vary depending on the specific fire or emergency management course being taught. In general, instructors must possess relevant professional experience in fire service, emergency response, or emergency management and hold the appropriate state, national, or industry-recognized certifications required for the subject area. Additional requirements, such as instructor credentials, specialized training, or teaching experience, may apply based on the course content and level of instruction.
