$65,000 - $85,000. This position may be hired at a Technical or Specialist level depending on qualifications and experience.

Status:

Job Summary:

This position will assist five county-level soil and water conservation districts (SWCDs) in the Lower St. Croix watershed in east central Minnesota, and other partners with natural resources project engineering. This position will focus on project installations; project types may include but not be limited to shoreline stabilization, gully stabilization, stormwater ponds or infiltration basins, native plantings, pollinator habitat, street sweeping planning, and many others. You will be involved in guiding landowners, planning projects, surveying, design, construction oversight, and maintenance. This is a professional position requiring a diverse background in pre-planning, problem evaluation, problem solving, and design and installation of structural and biological conservation activities. This position will spend a majority of their time focused on project designs and installations.

About Us:

Soil and water conservation districts (SWCDs) work with private landowners on voluntary conservation projects. We pursue projects that improve water quality in lakes, streams, rivers, and groundwater; improve habitat; prevent or manage invasive species; and much more. This position supports five SWCDs and other partners who share staff and other resources through a group called the Lower St. Croix Partnership. While you will be centrally stationed at the Chisago SWCD in North Branch, MN you will work in surrounding counties of Washington, Anoka, Isanti, and Pine as well. Funds for this position were secured by these partners working together. The funding is stable, and we anticipate the position being permanent.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A two-year degree in engineering technology, natural resource management or equivalent post-secondary education.
• Proficient with GPS surveying equipment and/or total station.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and capable of working with a wide variety of people.
• Must be physically able and willing to work in varied terrain and weather conditions, and capable of lifting 50 lbs.
• Applicants should be able to learn quickly, follow instructions, handle multiple projects, and adapt to changing job duties and/or responsibilities.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team with multiple district staff and other government agencies and organizations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Four years of demonstrated engineering or construction management. Desired skill sets are surveying, design, drainage area delineation, construction cost estimating, and construction supervision.
• Proficient in use of computer-aided design and drafting software such as CAD, VectorWorks, Pix4D, or similar.
• Proficiency with GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro or QGIS.
• Familiarity with the USDA-NRCS Field Office Technical Guide and the Minnesota Stormwater Manual is preferred.
• Four-year or advanced degree.
• USDA Job Approval Authority for Engineering practices.
