Executive Director

 

Mission:

The Executive Director for IDEA Public Schools is responsible for all measures of student outcomes, staff performance, operational stability, financial stewardship, state and federal compliance, and board development. The Executive Director sets the vision for excellence with regard to academics, organizational culture, and long-term success across the state by implementing the IDEA Public Schools model with fidelity. They will report to the Area Superintendent and partner closely with senior leaders and national teams across the organization to contribute to the overall success of ALL our students on their path of getting to and through college. They also ensure effective external stakeholder engagement to build and maintain strong support with our state and local constituents.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

·          Directly manage VPs in Region (i.e. VP of Schools, VP of Special Programs, VP of Operations)

·          Supervise Regional Directors (if applicable)

·          Directly manage Executive Assistant

 

Location:

This is a full-time position located in Houston. Preference will be given to candidates who live in the region, or who are willing to relocate.

 

Travel Expectations:    

·          Travel within the Region throughout the year as necessary.

·          Travel to IDEA training events or step-back may be required.

 

What You’ll Do – Accountabilities

Essential Duties:

 

·    Strategic Leadership and Management: Set regional vision and strategic plan to oversee academics, special programs, operations, finances, and culture ensuring high expectations and excellence across all campus and regional levels, with a focus on meeting or exceeding our organizational goals and targets:

  • Overall TEA accountability rating of an A for the region
  • Staff retention at 85% or higher
  • Student ADA at 94.8% or higher
  • Student persistence at 80% or higher
  • College matriculation at 100%

·    Supervision of Key Leaders: Supervise and develop regional leader (i.e. Vice Presidents, Regional Directors of Operations, Staffing, and Human Resources) to ensure effective learning environments, operational efficiency, staff excellence, and alignment with the organization and region's mission, values, and priorities.

·    Financial Planning and Compliance: Lead long-term and annual financial planning processes, ensure fiduciary responsibilities are met, and maintain compliance with all state and federal regulations.

·    Organizational Culture and Inclusivity: Foster a strong, inclusive regional culture through integrity, visibility, effective communication, and positive relationships with staff.

·    Engagement with External Stakeholders: Build and maintain relationships with the Regional Advisory Board, parents, community stakeholders, state authorizers, and the philanthropic community to support the region's growth and sustainability, in collaboration with the Advancement team.

·    Brand Representation and Growth: Serve as the voice and vision of the region, ensuring a positive presence, high visibility, and the successful launch of new or scaling schools through proper planning and execution, in collaboration with the Advancement and Growth teams

Required experience:

·    Education: Bachelor’s degree required

·    Years of experience: 10 years in PK-12 education with significant experience in leadership, management, and supervisory responsibilities

 

Preferred experience:

·    Education: Masters degree in Educational Leadership and or Administration or related

·    Demonstrated success as a turnaround campus principal and in district- or network-level leadership at the director level or above within a district or charter management organization


Physical Requirements:

·    The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations

Compensation & Benefits:

Salaries for people entering this role typically start between $170,800–$210,100, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for performance pay based on organizational performance and goal attainment.
