Job Description

JOB TITLE: Maintenance Worker I

Job Purpose Statement/s: The job of "Maintenance Worker I" is done for the purpose/s of maintaining facilities in safe operating condition; maintaining a preventive maintenance program; and resolving immediate operational and/or safety concerns.

Essential Job Functions: Under General Supervision:

* Builds items (e.g. rough concrete, carpentry work, touch-up paint, etc.) for the purpose of modifying and/or adapting facilities to specific needs.

* Inspects system components (e.g. parts, equipment) and facility appurtenances (i.e. sidewalks, fences, roads, etc.) for the purpose of identifying potential repairs and providing an ongoing program of preventive maintenance.

* Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.

* Repairs system components (e.g. parts, equipment) and facility appurtenances (i.e. sidewalks, fences, roads, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a safe, comfortable and operating condition.

* Responds to emergency situations (e.g. facility damage, damaged playground equipment, roof leaks, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.

* Maintains equipment (i.e. playground equipment) for the purpose of ensuring availability and functioning of required items and ensuring safety.

Other Job Functions:

* Transports materials, furnishings, equipment, supplies, waste materials, etc. for the purpose of providing and/or removing items at school and/or job sites, event functions, etc.

* Participates in various activities (e.g. meetings, training, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying information.

Essential Job Requirements - Qualifications:

* Experience Required:

Prior job related experience

* Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:

Skill to operate hand and power tools used in general maintenance functions, perform basic math to calculate measurements, quantities, etc.

Knowledge of methods and use of materials, tools and equipment used in general maintenance functions, standards for safe use of equipment.

Ability to stand for prolonged periods, work independently with minimal supervision, perform a variety of tasks, understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, reaching/handling/fingering, talking/hearing conversations, near visual acuity/depth perception.

* Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:

Valid Driver's License and evidence of insurability, Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, Health Physical Examination, Tuberculosis Testing/Clearance.

Our District accepts applications on-line through Edjoin (www.edjoin.org) only. PREVIOUS MAINTENANCE EXPERIENCE IS PREFERRED. This posting is for SUBSTITUTE (on-call) maintenance positions only. Permanent maintenance positions will be posted separately. Substitute positions may be part-time or full-time, with morning or afternoon shifts depending on site need. This is an application pool - there may or may not be openings available at the time of posting. Once positions do become available, Administrators at the Maintenance and Operations Department will be screening applications from this application pool for their Substitute Maintenance positions.
