A position has been declared open in the Weber School District at Two Rivers High for a part-time Youth In Custody (YIC) Secondary Aide. This position is for 5.75 hours per day, 180 days (9 months) per year, and is compensated according to Lane 4(B) of the Paraprofessionals Salary Schedule.

Job Summary:

The Youth In Custody (YIC) Secondary Aide supports the educational and behavioral development of students in custody by providing academic assistance, mentoring, and supervision in a structured school environment. This role works closely with teachers, counselors, and administrative staff to ensure students receive appropriate support and guidance.

 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist YIC students with academic tasks, including tutoring and classroom support.
  • Monitor student behavior and ensure compliance with school and program rules.
  • Support individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and incidents.
  • Communicate regularly with teachers, counselors, and case managers.
  • Provide emotional support and mentorship to students facing personal and legal challenges.
  • Supervise students during transitions, lunch, and other non-classroom activities.
  • Help facilitate restorative practices and conflict resolution strategies.
  • Ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students.
  • Participate in training sessions related to trauma-informed care, de-escalation, and youth development.

Skills:

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to build trust and rapport with at-risk youth.
    • Conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques.
    • Organizational and time management skills.
    • Basic computer literacy (e.g., Google Workspace, student information systems).

Knowledge:

    • Understanding of adolescent development and trauma-informed practices.
    • Familiarity with educational accommodations and special education processes.
    • Awareness of juvenile justice system and confidentiality requirements.
    • School policies and procedures related to student conduct and safety.

Abilities:

    • Maintain composure and professionalism in high-stress situations.
    • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
    • Adapt to changing student needs and schedules.
    • Uphold ethical standards and maintain confidentiality.
    • Demonstrate empathy, patience, and consistency.

Job Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience: Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.
