Job Summary

The position of Supervisor of School Safety Compliance ensures all schools follow safety and security procedures as established by the School Board Policies, Florida Statutes, Student Codes of Conduct and Florida Department of Education Office of Safe School.  The position requires the ability to work with broad autonomy and be able to exercise sound judgment in the determination of what procedures or standards to follow, and in what sequence.  The position is not an essential employee but may have the responsibility to respond to situations 24/7 and are expected to appropriately initiate and apply procedures based on policy and experience.  The work environment may include an office, school, or field work.

 

Essential Functions

Depending upon the specific position, incumbents may perform some or all of the functions in the section below.  Percentage of time spent performing essential functions may vary across positions.

1. Ensures all school safety, security and school-based personnel are in compliance with district and school safety policies and procedures as required by School Board Policies, and the Department of Education’s Office of Safe Schools.

2. Review policies and procedures of the District and Office of Safe Schools for compliance with state law and rules concerning school safety.

3. Oversees any necessary training and resources to students and District staff in matters relating to youth mental health awareness and assistance; emergency procedures, including active shooter training; and school safety and security.

4. Assists the School Safety Specialist with administrative functions as required such as collaboration with Principals when concerns arise in school safety and security. 

5. Researches the implications of new legislation on the district and departmental procedures and revises agency policy to remain compliant with current law.

6. Serves as the District liaison at meeting with local public safety agencies, community agencies and organizations in matters of school safety and security in the absence of the designated School Safety Specialist.

7. Perform other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.

8. Assists in the coordination with all school Principals each year to facilitate the completion of the Florida Safe School Assessment Tool (FSSAT), coordinates with JSO, other county Law Enforcement Agencies, and JFRD to schedule school safety tours at each school as required for completion of the FSSAT.  

9. Ensures all schools are in compliance with Behavioral Threats Assessment Teams, Monthly Emergency Drill Requirements, and Student Environmental Safety Incident Reporting (SESIR), as required by Rule 6A-1.0018 School Safety Requirements and Monitoring. 

10. Performs other duties as assigned by the District’s School Safety Specialists.

 

Qualifications

 

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required.

 

Experience: One (1) Year experience as a School Safety Specialist preferred

 

Certification: None

  • Knowledge of School Board Policies, Florida Statutes, Student Codes of Conduct and Florida Department of Education Office of Safe School Policy and Procedure.
  • Knowledge of emergency drills, emergency procedures and violence prevention strategies.
  • Knowledge of modern school police administration concepts, functions, principles, practices, and procedures
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and case decisions related to school security
  • Knowledge of the laws and safety recommendations from the Marjory Stone Douglas High School Safety Act
  • Knowledge of processes for ensuring school districts are in compliance with school safety procedures and processes.
  • Knowledge of complex research and reporting methods

  • Ability to apply effective human relations techniques, especially in adversarial or confrontational situations
  • Ability to quickly and calmly exercise sound judgment in emergencies
  • Ability to recognize trends and problems in the field of school police safety
