Who We Are: CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City, where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports, they need to thrive. We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in: Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We reach almost 80,000 individuals and families, including almost 13,000 youth. CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are living in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.
Education & Youth Development Programs: CAMBA operates more than 20 after school and summer camp programs in New York City, serving over 10,000 elementary and middle school children. This programming includes supper and socialization; homework help; science, technology, engineering and math (STEM); literacy enrichment; recreation activities; conflict resolution; clubs; and community circle. Programs operate during the school year, in the summer, and on most school holidays.
Position: Youth Facilitator I (Group Leader)
Reports To: Assistant Program Director
Location(s): Brooklyn, NY
What The Youth Facilitator I (Group Leader) Does:
- Research new materials and methods of instruction to keep curriculum current and relevant.
- Design daily lesson plans to meet core course objectives.
- Coordinate curriculum and daily activities with school personnel, as appropriate.
- Administer and grade appropriate pre-and-post testing.
- Assess clients' strengths in order to build upon them.
- Prepare and distribute instructional materials for classroom use.
- Provide training in and/or utilize techniques for resolving conflicts non-violently in group settings.
- Create and coordinate activities that enhance clients’ leadership skills.
- Manage classrooms and/or small groups effectively to maximize client learning.
- Review all homework assignments.
- Document client progress on daily/weekly/monthly/semester/academic year basis.
- Participate in client progress meetings/conferences with parents and school personnel.
- Participate in administrative and staff meetings as requested.
- Provide all required information for weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual reports.
- May actively solicit and coordinate internship or job opportunities for clients.
- Tasks may be modified, expanded and/or assigned over time.
Minimum Education/Experience Required:
- HS diploma or GED and currently enrolled in college or has completed some college coursework and demonstrated the requisite skills.
Other Requirements:
- Must obtain Dept. of Health, Dept. of Education fingerprint clearance; doctor's note certifying good health; proof of negative results from TB test; and State Central Registry (SCR) clearance.
- Ability to maintain State Central Registry (SCR) clearance and fingerprint clearance throughout the duration of employment.
- Ability to adapt to the culture and environment of a public school
- Ability and willingness to participate in field trips, requiring dealing with outdoor weather conditions during working hours.
Compensation: $20.60 hourly
