Market Performance is responsible for performance oversight of the Lloyd's market, utilising an array of expertise and tools to drive sustainable performance through the market cycle, create confidence for our syndicates to take risk and uphold them to a best-in-class calibre that allows them to confidently drive their own ambitious strategies forward. The Market Performance function comprises of Syndicate Performance, Class Underwriting Performance & Solutions, Delegated Authority, Claims and Catastrophe Risk & Reinsurance Analytics and is headed up by the Chief of Market Performance.
Reporting to the Chief of Staff of Market Performance, the Business Manager will undertake an exceptionally varied role providing day to day operational support for Market Performance with a strong delivery lens. The main focus will be to:
- Ensure objectives are delivered, including providing project management leadership for significant pieces of work.
- Own the risk & control environment
- Update and maintain process documents for the team
- Provide business manager support as required to the senior leadership team within Market Performance.
Key Accountabilities:
- Support the delivery of Market Performance strategy through the creation, tracking and day-to-day involvement in the division’s objectives
- Provide project management support to Market Performance to ensure the delivery of key objectives, involving SME resource from across the broader Corporation and managing updates to annual processes, such as risk codes, assessment of outperforming syndicates eligibility, CPG protocols and oversight documents etc.
- Providing broader support for the Directors within Market Performance in organising, facilitating workshops and events in support of a range of initiatives including both technical reviews, team strategy planning and people development.
- Manage the internal governance review process for Market Performance SLT, ensuring all committee papers are reviewed and approved prior to submission.
- Working in collaboration with the Data & MI Analyst to provide key briefings for upcoming meetings by collecting and analysing all necessary information
- Prepare slides for presentations (market messages, speeches, external presentations, training, regulatory requests, annual results, rating agencies): for all of the Directors in Market Performance, keeping a library of collateral that can be used consistently
- Managing external communications to the market from Market Performance to ensure consistency in tone, and that the cadence of communications is not overly burdensome. This includes Vuture, as well as Lloyd’s.com, the annual Market Oversight Plan.
- Working with the team PAs, take ownership for onboarding new starters across Market Performance, in terms of new starter documentation, ensuring this is maintained and up to date, workday approvals, introductory meetings, and IT equipment
- Support in the management of overall Market Performance team engagement and culture, including monthly roll-ups, away days and team events
- Take ownership for ensuring all Internal audit and risk actions are completed on time by the relevant owner in the team and the SLT have oversight of actions.
- Responsible for first line risk and controls for the division, raising incidents, liaison with second and third line functions, managing, implementing and testing of key controls and managing the risk environment as well as being the business continuity representative for the division. Working with wider Lloyd’s Risk/Operational Resilience teams as required.
- Support the Chief of Staff with the overall budget management for the Market Performance Division
- Be responsible for the oversight of the IGSA (intra group services arrangement) with LIC (Lloyd’s Insurance Company) in collaboration with the relevant SLT member: ensuring obligations are adhered to, and the IGSA remains an accurate reflection of responsibilities
To deliver the role effectively you will need:

- Strong project management capability, including coordination of cross-functional teams and oversight of process updates.
